@Netty - I checked out Ontario this AM :) And the other provinces - I have family in every province and territory except Quebec hahaha. And in Oregon and Washington. They have maps also. ( cooler than mine...I saw helicopters. Canucks don't get helicopters on their maps - dang it. ) It is crazy how early the fire seasons were this year. I was really happy to see that most provinces were calming down.

The fires in Canada are there any fire under control. So many . Insurance fire has been difficult many insurance companies will not cover property that have been included in what the state has deemed fire zones.
Unfortunately the new season is called Fire Season due to drought and climate warming.
Several wildfire been burning for weeks here . Just one state Oregon. IMG_0643.jpeg

Good Wednesday afternoon all. Currently 22°C and sunny. My screen is displaying a warning that says "high winds soon", not sure why? I don't think we are expecting a change in the weather. I had another busy day at work, trying to deadhead and clean the gardens up, and then I just got too hot so I went and worked on the walking trails in the woods. It was a nice change! Came home and did a garden walk and discovered the first 3 blushing cherry tomatoes!! Another day or so and those 'Sun Gold' will be ready to eat!
Off to water the garden, have a great night all :)

Good Thursday! The marinara sauce marathon is over, so I put some tomatoes in the freezer to use later. Then I cleaned the kitchen thoroughly--amazing where tomato seeds end up!

Congratulations upon emerging from the marathon intact. Someone’s going to eat well. I had to chuckle over that remark about where the seeds end up, because we have the same thing here. Haha. Oh dear me.

Today is a home care day after a long trip to town yesterday. We had a big rain last night which was most welcome. I will be waiting for the garden dry out a wee bit before venturing in. Tasks for today are blanching and freezing 8 heads cauliflower that I harvested last night (so exciting...and fresh cauli for supper tonight), blanching and freezing some thinned baby carrots ( after keeping some out for supper as well), putting away the remaining groceries, shifting over and making ice for Hubby, BBQing a half chicken, making GF graham wafers soon to be made into cheescake, and perhaps a loaf GF bread. All of the cooking is outside on the covered porch, so it will depend on heat and smoke, but I'm optomistic that I can get the baking done before it gets too yucky outside. I'm hoping today that I can cut down the thistles in front of the swimming hole at the creek before they bloom. But that will be a bundle up in a leather jacket, chaps and welding gloves, so it will depend on the heat. One poke from the darn things give me a hive, and they are very pokey. Have a most excellent day everyone.

Today has been a different but kind of cool day....and a COOL day. All of these interesting things that nature throws at us. We had the good fortune of it clearing off and bringing the cold mountain air last night, and then the smoke came in but in the higher atmosphere. The day has had a yellow sky kind of apocalypict feel to it - BUT the smoke sealed in the cool air! I had a high of 19 C today instead of the expected 31 C and it has been quite nice. Who would have thunk it? My plants are enjoying it. So am I. :) It's a weird day.

Mel, a home care day sounds pretty good. One thing that IS good is the spoken image of a cheesecake. Oh My Goodness Gracious Me. May I drop by foe a small piece of that?!

About freezing-in caulies. Have you done that before? How did they turn out?

Sorry to hear that you are not a thistle fan. Haha. A thistle and bee make a good picture. We have one lonely thistle in the flower garden…in an unfortunate place, of course. I may let it bloom and then deadhead it.
Great that you have coolness now albeit with a weird-coloured sky.

I had been wondering how your harvest was going, miss.

Happy Bastille Day to all you Francophiles! We are celebrating by having French food for lunch and dinner. We are not French, but any reason for dining a la Francais is a good reason.
    Bon chance y'all!

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 19°c and overcast.
My Fitbit told me I took 32, 974 steps yesterday. That might explain why I slept so well last night haha
We are babysitting the grandkids tonight, while Mom and Dad attend a friends wedding. We should have lots of fun!
But first, I have grass to cut and trimming to do as weatherman calls for rain for the next 2 days.
Have a great day all :)

It's Tuesday, and shaping up to be a good day! It will be hot, hot, hot today so we watered everything early, turned the fans on the hens from low to medium, and then hurried inside to join the cat who was lounging on the sofa. I'm catching up on the laundry--my, we are a dirty pair--and planning a cold lunch. Tonight is a risotto. If I don't get to cook at least once a day, I get twitchy!

Thursdays are good days! The herbs have been watered, the hens taken care of--fans on medium, and as is said in these parts, I'm fixin' to go pick tomatoes. WE still have a few, but the plants are shutting down in this heat. We'll trim them back and keep them watered, and hopefully have a fall crop. Yeah, like we need more tomatoes!
Hope you all have a good Thursday and yours is cooler than ours!

Any idea when the heat will break, Marlin?
Good idea with the toms. The heat here is doing something to our beet root.
I hope your toms will recover.

The forecast for the weekend is for cooler weather, and with a possibility of showers. I hope so. We are fine with our rainwater collection cubes and barrels, but the farmers around here are really worried.
The tomatoes go through this "dormant period" every summer. They perk up in late September or early October, and we get a crop before the first freeze in November.
