Good Monday morning all. Currently 3°C and overcast.
Yesterday, I decided to load up my vehicle and take a load of my daughters 'stuff' over to their new house. Now that they are in their forever home, it's time to start bringing all of their stored things over to them. This will also be a huge help in my own fall cleaning! Anyway, spent a lovely afternoon with the family and got to squeeze the grandkids - great day!
Back to fall cleaning today - have my room torn apart and the bedding in the wash, and will do a thorough cleaning before putting everything back together.
Have a great day all :)

Ohhh Netty. I'm so jealous. I dream of the day of taking totes that I'm storing for the kids to their forever homes. hahahaha. Then I would have room for all of my canning jars. One day! Fall cleaning feels great doesn't it?

We are sitting at 2 C with some weird little snow squalls going on. Nothing is really sticking. It was a very productive firewood day yesterday, and my hand hot wax machine and I were best friends last night. It sure helps my thumbs. I'm hoping to go for a long walk once the weather calms down a bit.

Dinner is made for this evening. Tomorrow is a town day for Hubby's appointments, so my grocery list is being wrapped up. I hope to take a stab at some stocking stuffers tomorrow while he is in his appointment.

@Sjoerd - these are the signs. I've never used a router before, so they are not perfect. I salvaged some pine tongue and groove siding from the landfill, and sanded it down. The pine turned out nice. The kids will love them I think, regardless. :) I hope to start painting them in a few days. ( Once I've finished fall cleaning the art room...).

I try to not look at the E and the Z hahahaha. Once they are painted and stained they will look better.

I think those signs are looking good and can imagine that once painted, they will look quite smart. I have no idea what a router is in this sense. What is that?

Thank you Sjoerd. A router is a mechanical wood working tool, with different sized bits. It, in a sense, drills into the wood and makes a trough. You can choose the width of the trough and the depth. It will also bevel the edges of a board, to make them rounded or shaped.

@Melody Mc. , you are keeping busy! Those signs are a great project. I know your daughter and her girlfriend will be very pleased! So much hard work with firewood. Just reading that makes me tired!

@Sjoerd that story was scary! Somehow it reminds me of when I was a student, and had an accident while attempting to slice a frozen bagel. The bone in my thumb stopped the knife. I forget how many stitches that was. Most of the sensation returned within a few years LOL.

@Netty that BBQ pork will be great on cold days!

I started a batch of peanut butter cookies, but the dough is in the fridge until tomorrow. I did too much today and need a break.

Here is my new veteran's day cap. I wont wear it a lot, I have other, more comfortable caps. Sjoerd, like you, I am very grateful, and filled with respect, for the dedication and sacrifices of veterans. My experiences were mostly not bad (there were some things I wont bring up), and a lot were very good, and I feel like I was very fortunate. I came out much more mature and disciplined than I went in, and that served me well in life.

In the background the fall colors are very nice.

That fiery leafed Japanese maple was a volunteer in the old yard. I pulled it up and transplanted it a couple of times. The yellow leaves on the lower right are ginkgos I grew from seeds. I used to know several seed-bearing ginkgo trees around town, and started several trees back then.

I tried a different hot sauce recipe. With this one, the fresh chilis are cut and soaked a couple of days in a vinegar solution with garlic, salt, and a bit of sugar. Then boil and simmer a half hour, and blend until pureed.

    IMG_4789.jpeg

Oh my, that is tasty! It's about 1/2 Serrano peppers, with most of the rest being Cayenne and Thai peppers and a few Tabascos. What I had left in the garden. I had some sandwich spread (a mushroom / walnut / bean pate from the Moosewood cookbook) which was kind of bland. With this chili sauce, it's quite nice. Also...

I went to the library, updated my card, checked out some cookbooks and garden book, and got set up for online reading and audio books.

    Busy day LOL.

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently just 1°C and overcast.
My new toy arrived yesterday - An Excaliber 10 try electronic food dehydrator! I've always wanted one but was too cheap to spend the money. Walmart had a great sale on so I bought one! I've got the last of the garden parsley drying in it as we speak. Now to find a place to set it up permanently, I'm thinking maybe my basement where all my canned goods are kept. Now to find a good sale on a freeze dryer!
    Fall cleaning continues today :)

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 5°C and clearish.
I've been watching the weather forecast all week, and today is the day I have chosen to do the back flower garden cleanup! Weatherman says 12°C and sun today, so it should be perfect for cutting down all the perennials. This should take most of the day, and then we are off to the rink at 4:30. I should sleep well tonight!
Have a great day all :)

Cheers Mel. Now I know how that is done.

Daniel— That was a dramatic story about the bagel and knife. Good grief !
    Nice hat though.

So then, who’s having outdoor fun, Netty.

Good Thursday afternoon all. Currently 11°C and sunny. Its the most beautiful November day I can every remember!
I got all but 2 of my gardens cleaned up yesterday. It looks so naked now, but its a good feeling knowing the work is done. Today was my errands and shopping day, and when I got home I burned all my shrubbery in the fire pit. This gorgeous weather isn't going to last much longer.
Yesterday I also made up the pot of winter greens for the porch, while my neighbor was out harvesting his acreage of soybeans. It seemed strange those two things were happening on the same day haha The neighbor across the street is harvesting his cornfield today, just in time for tomorrow nights return of more seasonable weather.
I am Sjoerd, and I couldn't be happier about it!
Have a good night all :)

Good Monday morning all. Currently -7°C and sunny. I think this is the coldest morning so far this fall.
I've been out for my dog walk, and now I'm enjoying a cup of coffee. I'm having issues with my feet, I suspect plantar fasciitis again, so I'm sitting at my desk with my foot massager.
Today I have some cleanup to do from the weekend, and some birthday presents to wrap for my daughters birthday this week. She's turning 29 on Wednesday! I'll bake her some gluten free pumpkin bread, she prefers that to birthday cake!
Have a great day all :)

Good Morning. We went over to the harbour church and voted for a new Dutch government today. The church is a short walk from our home, it is very pretty and used for cultural events. See foto:

My Bride thought that it may be interesting to briefly tell how the elections work here.
This time we had to choose from a list with 26 parties ranging from leftists to right wingers with a total of 1126 candidates (yes you read correctly, 1126!). See the voting form here:
    FD6FC9C8-54EB-40D4-A14D-F120438D3745.jpeg

The party leaders are numbers one of each party. The party with the most votes delivers the prime minister. To reach an absolute majority of 76 of the 150 seats in parlement, the winner forms a coalition with other parties.

We will be glued to the telly tonight.

@Sjoerd, the election in the Netherlands was on the news here yesterday too, I'm also interested to learn what happens. I hope it is something good.

I am so surprised that our elections are mentioned there. We must be coming up in the world. :)

Sjoerd, I think it's more that my interests are so unfocused, I look for news from everywhere. There is some interest about The Netherlands in the news, because it's such an interesting place.

Here, today is Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

    IMG_5606.jpeg

Ours has to spread over a few days. It's too much to make all of the traditional foods on one day. Yesterday was yeast bread rolls, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie. The green beans came out too salty so I will remake them today. I like using French cut beans - lay the beans flat in the feed tube of the food processor and use the slicer blade - sliced almost instantly. I used frozen, blanched ones from this fall's vegetable garden. I don't thaw them before slicing.

Today will be bread stuffing and the green bean casserole re-make, plus more pumpkin pie. For the meat eater in the household, a roast duck (purchased - not one from the yard). If there is energy, candied sweet potatoes.
