Melody so nice to hear your weather is warming up and it’s ok to get a bit bonkers… it is nice to feel the sunshine. And the snow melted and new growth starting in your garden . That’s is a good sign that soon it will be time to plant your seedling starts .

    Good morning everyone.

Hope you all had a brilliant weekend!

How lovely @Netty , I bet they were equally excited to be seeing you too. Hope you all had a great time.

Unexpected visits are the best aren't they, we didn't know until last Wednesday that our eldest and his partner would be coming down to stay , she unfortunately had to go back last night but our son is staying on for a few days.....and I'm still so excited!!:smt026:smt026.
One down side is that I do also get the 'empty nest blues' when they go home, but only for few days at this time of year as fortunately there's so much to distract me with out in the garden.:like:

    Have a lovely Monday.:)

I'd like to echo Clay's post--Happy Earth Day Everyone! We only have one earth, and there's no replacement. Please do something nice for our earth today.

    Good morning everyone.
Still enjoying time with our eldest, he may catch up with an old school friend today so if he does I might prick out some more seedlings. I also have to go into the city for a dental check up this, afternoon.

    Have a great day.:)

Good morning. :) The sun is beginning to finally hit the deck so it is time to start packing plants out. Then some yard work, and a house tidy before an early town day tomorrow. I finally made time for an eye appointment ( three years over due). It's my turn to take time to have self care and go back to the shop. It will be nice to see the staff as two of my children worked there, and my eldest was inspired to be an Doctor of Optometry by the doctor I'm seeing. I'm baking the office cookies this evening.

We are still lighting a fire to take the chill off the house at night, with frosty mornings.

Our forest fire season for my area started this last week. There were seven new starts over the weekend, and only one remaining. It is a few hours drive away, but certainly a worrisome reminder about the year ahead. Our snow pack was only at 60% of normal, and they are warning everyone to be prepared early this year. We will service our water pumps this week and roll out the fire equipment, check it all, and replace anything that needs replacing. With the low freshet we will be able to place the pumps early this year.

There were many hold over fires this winter, with so little snow. The roots and duff didn't extinguish over winter as normal. Someone has started calling these "zombie fires"o_O ( probably someone in their twenties that likes watching The Walking Dead). We still call them Hold Over fires.

Like you Pac - we can't really do fire mitigation on a forest. And we will never log our property, as there would be no point in living here. I've started raking up the old needles etc close to the house, and we are removing the big cedar behind the kitchen window. Other than that, it's just a lot of hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. I personally will feel better when things finally green up.

Melody I agree with the whole winter season had a lot less snow and moisture to help with fire season here too.
We have already had a few storms lightening set off fires.
Living in close proximity to huge trees /forest is a way of life. Would never clear cut our trees they have a way of becoming part of the garden family.

I planted so many trees close proximity to the house when at that time it was a highly praised plan to not use air conditioners which add to the pollution and blackouts every summer. I depend on these tree to keep my garden and home cool. It’s been a successful plan even in the extreme heat of summer, I never need the air on.

As you know just standing under trees in summers has a huge deferential in temps than standing out in a clearing.

Good morning , gosh mid week already!!

The blues will hit me today as our eldest heads back to London...:smt022:smt022....lots of potting up is on the agenda for this afternoon.:like:

The good news is that I still have all my teeth ....nothing needed doing at the Dentist yesterday. I was quietly dreading the appointment as this was a first one at a new Dental Surgery. We had been with the previous one 38 years but over the last few years they sold out to a big nationwide group and we've had very poor service since, appointments cancelled at the last minute and dentists only staying a short while before moving on else where. This new Surgery is highly rated and all staff have been there a while so..:like:.

    Have a brilliant day all:).

Today I had to bring stuff inside, that might be affected by rain. It's drizzling now. Lots more rain, the next five days.

That's good. There are deferred indoor chores.

I gave Rufus his haircut and a scrub-a-dub-dub shampoo and conditioner. Then he developed a major case of the zoomies. This time, I bought a ceramic blade for the clippers, and treated it with silicone lubricant. That seemed to make for smoother cutting.

Have a good evening and a good morning!

Zoomies seems to be the after bath routine for dogs… I bet Rufus was a good boy for his bath and hair trim.
It was so nice up her yesterday 76F and today cold and cloudy.
