Good aftermorning my Stew chums on the 27th December. Had nobody call to the door doing "The Wren", it seems the tradition is well and truly dead in modern Ireland :( Very sad. A lot of traditions are falling by the wayside.

Sorry about your MIL woes Eils. I could see it as a comedy sketch however :D

Good morning from cold New Orleans. At least the sun is shining. Santa brought me a nice warm coat just in time.

Good Morning/afternoon everyone - Cold here this morning 30 degrees but the sun is shining and it's suppose to warm up into the 50's. That's better than yesterday was cold and gloomy all day. Didn't go to any the sales. Don't like to shop after Christmas too crowded, traffic is bad and parking lots are a mess. I'll go out later in the week and take a look and see what's left. Have a good day.

Good morning! Cold and gloomy this morning. Rain predicted. Hope it doesn't change to snow. I have to work tonight and then tomorrow it's down to the valley for a few days. Dooley

Good Morning, though it's getting late. Why are others MIL's so much Funnier than your own? Maybe we could all swap for a while. 8)

Morning all. Sunny and not so cold this morning. I am hoping to get out in the back yard to clean out more of the annuals that finally succumbed to the latest frost.

I didn't attempt any of the post-holiday sales either ....I take that back, I did find a ceramic hanging birdbath at the pet shop down the road on sale. Amanda needed some things to get the Beta tank set up that she received for christmas and I always wander thru there looking for things that can be used in the backyard too. We did have to trek thru two malls yesterday. The Chinese pajamas and lounging outfit Randy got me were way too small. The first mall wasn't that crowded but the second one was packed with "rough" looking guys (read gang banger types) and police...we got in and out as quickly as we could and it isn't really in a bad part of town.

Good Morning. We all slept in this morning then straggled out for breakfast. Chris left to go back to Ohio and Mike and the little girls stopped to say good bye. Now it is quiet and we can start the cleanup, after a cup of coffee. Wannabe

    Good day, good peeps! :D
Old and comfortable rhythms are returning to our household. :-D
We took ourselves out for brunch, and got in a few groceries.

We haven't even considered going into town to brave the mall as yet,
but will have to do so in the next week or so.
Bless our dear hubbies who see us through "thin glasses", eh Toni?
I have a gorgeous new Christmas robe that is, alas,
a bit too snug around the old caboose.

Please forgive me, but I couldn't help smiling as I read about your MIL, Eileen.
DH and I have both been "orphans" for some years now,
but oh how well I remember bracing for the same old issues . . .
    . . . year after year . . . ad nauseum.
 They know right where all your buttons are, don't they?
And, in our case, too, it was always hubby's own mother who couldn't hold her tongue
about the length of his hair and his beard (when he used to wear one).
Glad you got through it without any "incidents", I remember some close calls.

I wouldn't mind either Glenda but MIL is soooo nasty when she puts the barbs in. She greeted Ian with comments like this: "For goodness sake get that fungus off your face boy (Ian's 54!!). I'm ashamed to be seen with you looking like that. You'll be tripping over that hair of yours soon and it makes you look like a pervert. I don't want a long haired freak for a son."
I know it hurts Ian when she does this kind of thing especially in front of others.
I don't mind any gibes aimed at me but I get very defensive when she aims them at either Ian or the kids. Funnily enough she NEVER says anything about our lads long hair - probably because they're bigger than her. :D :D I do soooo hate it when she picks on Ian and Laura though. She didn't even say Merry Christmas to him. :-x

Eileen,I'm a very big softy but I don't mine hurting anyones feeling if it is directed toward my kids or my hubby when he was with us .I would tell his mother how crappy she was being an acting (I used a more descriptive word)She treated me bad when we first married until I finally told her what I thought and it stopped.
If my mom had done such I would have told her also but she loved mine as her own and treated them as such.

Eileen, it is more than possible that my mother and Ian's mother are the same person. And the more she practices the worse she gets. The good part of all this is that Ian and I could be sibs and that would make you my SIL. Nifty!

Hey I'll come help you tackle your MIL if you come help me tackle mine Jan!!! ;) Wouldn't it be great if we really were SIL's. :D

I've told her many a time just what I think of her but it makes not one whit of difference - she goes deaf in both ears when I stand up to her. At least she doesn't live with us so I'm more than grateful for that!!! :smt023

Donna's mother was a hoot and great to have around, as is her father. Her mother died 2 yrs ago.
MY MOTHER on the other hand needs some serious work. And when stood up to, just laughs and carries on.
