Thanks for sharing. Very pretty plant. Wish I had something blooming. And wish I had places inside for for plants. Well ones My Maddie Mae our cat who would leave alone.
Cheryl, with no water in the cup of of a mature Bromeliad (where the plant will bloom) place an apple slice in a plastic bag with the plant for 1 to two weeks (keep out of sun) . Remove the bag. The ethylene gas given off by the apple slice will stimulate the plant to bloom in a month or two. It is done only to force the plant to flower. Jerry
Thanks everyone for the kind words about the Queen's Tears. I may have to try the apple slice trick next year and see if I can get it to bloom earlier. It seems like it blooms too late for me...right around the time we get some freezing temps. I'll have to thin it out come Spring, so if anyone would like a piece of it, just let me know.
That's one plant I wouldn't mind having! It's stunning and I love the unusual colour combination. I wonder if it would like our living room, but first I'll have to find one.
Thanks Sjoerd... but with the last 3 nights getting down to freezing, I had to bring it inside. And doesn't seem to happy about it! :-D That's the only drawback with it... blooms right when freezing temps arrive. Hopefully I can get it back outside soon so it can get some more sun and fresh air.
Cherylad: WOW, WOW, WOW, is all I say. That is so beautifulllll. It sounds like it would be a house plant here in Wis. Talk about freezing temps. Our high today is only going to get into the low 30's with 15-25 mile an hour winds out of the north. Burrrrr.
