Toni, so glad you finally got some much needed rain and cooler temps. That heat is a killer. I hope more rain is on the way for all of the drought stricken areas. The weather channel says some areas need more than 15 inches of rain to end the drought... :-?

Do you think that all of the snow and ice photos that were sent to you made all this nice cool weather actually happen? :stew2:

Toni, So glad to hear that your heat spell has been broken. I hope it won't return, and get back up into the triple digits! Up here in eastern Nebraska we are wishing there was a way to dig a big canal and send you a bunch of the flood water that is still sitting (covering) many areas near the Missouri River.
How have your plants fared in all the exteme heat?

We have 7 days of 100+ temps coming up but there might be some sort of change week after next.....just as long as it isn't a change that will be raising the temperatures higher.

So far I have lost 5 Salvia, 2 Rudbeckia, 1 Lantana, 1 Butterfly bush, several Coneflowers, 1 dwarf Joe Pye Weed, 1 Mandavilla, 3 Dusty Miller, 3 Husker Red Penstemon, and several things that died in July and have already been forgotten. I might specialize in Cactus next year in case this type of weather hits us again.

Oh, yeah, 5 tomato plants, a Zucchini, and 3 Lavenders.

Toni, Condolences on all your plants that are now in plant heaven. :'( I lost a Lavender too, it just dried up and shriveled away.
I lost a few annuals in July, more than I ever have! I have just recently brought all the containers out from their protective shade, back to where they are supposed to be (in the sun) Yes, this summer will be remembered for the HEAT
