I found the video most entertaining, so much so that I showed it to my wife….twice…then in my usual fashion I started to throw in stories. I got as far as the Dutch and their system of dykes, described as one of the seven modern wonders of architecture. Memories flood back….. Backpedal 61 years to a 9 year old who had just heard on the radio that North Sea countries had just experienced a devastating winter storm and that dykes meant to hold back the sea in the Netherlands had failed. Hundreds of square miles flooded with over a thousand lives lost. Zeeland and South Holland bearing the brunt of the unusual storm surge. Anyway she likes my history lessons so maybe someday I will finish explaining the rest of the video. Then again will we ever get by people like Peter Stuyvesant, Abel Tasman and Cornelis Nay. Soon Mr. Nay may get his wish. Hmmm..I digress.

Great video Sjoerd, I now have hours of stories to tell.

EILEEN, NETTY, CHERYL--Yeah, I was afraid that would be the case. Still, if you could take the info at a slower pace you would see that it was correct...just the pronunciation was a bit off. hahaha.
Well, of course it is confusing...it must be where the term, "double-dutch" comes from ;)

Hello WARE-- I'm well chuffed that the vid made sense to you. I'll PM you a map to show you more precisely where West-Friesland is.

CAROLYN--Yes, I saw that beast. In fact when I was travelling through the mountains of North Carolina, I stopped at an old-looming country store and the chap behind the counter told me all about them (with the most serious face) and was willing to sell me the one on the wall for a "special price". I felt that I could not buy this stuffed creature and deprive him of great notoriety of having the only one ever killed and stuffed. Ahem! I suppose that my face is a gullible one. Cackle.

That was some interesting info about those adulterated bars of choccy there, TONI. I have never heard of them. There was a period when all manner of things were adulterated and sold over here as well.

HANK--your perception was spot on (in the title) but the info was pretty factual actually. Glad that you liked this posting.

Glad that you were able to keep up with the narrater KAY--I wonder where your neighbours are from.

BUNKIE 'n Bip---Why, are you saying that it was a little confusing to you as well? Hee hee hee.

Why DONNA-- Do you mean that you never knew where I lived? Oh dear. chuckle.

KM-- Habk answered your quezzy well with that link.

I am happy that you liked the posting, MG-- I believe that I recall you telling me before about meeting our Queen. (she has since abdicated and her son is presently our King).

Great that you liked the posting, CAYUGA--Too bad the guy spoke so rap[idly.

JERRY--I'm glad that you got something out of this posting. Yers, that flood was horrendous and prompted the construction of what we call the "Deltawerken". It is interesting to read about.
It sounds as if you shall keep your bride entertained for the foreseeable future.

Interesting, learned in school history that Holland is Netherland ... never questioned why, you know like Siam and Thailand. Thanks for the clarification Sjoerd.

    Hmm ... Thailand, Siam??? :-? :-? :-?

Glad that you liked the posting, KK. I have often wondered how this country is portrayed in textbooks in schools in other countries.
