Oh my, you guys, I feel really guilty! Most of the time I'm in a foul mood because of our chilly and rainy weather here, but I am not being honest with myself. I know very well that a heatwave is a LOT worse than this chilly spell. Plants don't dry out, everyone gets a good night's sleep, no heat-exhaustion, high water & electricity bills etc.

So I looked in the mirror just now, and told myself that I must stop grumbling, and think of all you poor overheated people across the ocean instead. Putting things into perspective I think that's called....

I wish I could send some cool air your way. :stew1:

Gardenelf-we sure could us the cooler air. It is 9:15 am and I just checked my deck thermometer. It is in the sun and read 102 degrees F. I went out this morning to pick Raspberries and Black raspberries before it got to hot. :( They look so sad and are ripening really strange because of the weather. One side will be ripe and the other not very. :-| We are suppose to have a cool front coming in this evening. :-D Yah, I can't wait. We also have had a few night time rain storms. That is great as I don't have to water so much. Tomorrow is suppose to be 82 with low humidity. :-D :-D

Glad someone will be seeing the end of the heat wave, long range forecast for us is for it to hang around here until almost October. Might drop below 100 by then but they are not committing themselves to that forecast.

It is just scorching hot here. Hit 100° at some time today, now 99°. I worked until 1 p.m. because I was in shade, but still pretty miserable.
The weather guy just said we may get some rain, a 50% chance tonight. Well, I'll won't hold my breath!
We were having a cool, rainy June and this heat wave has just settled in, and will not leave. :-x
I have lugged a lot of my containers into a spot under my big old Sycamore tree to give them some shade until the temps moderate some. I am really spending a lot of time watering lately!
Excuse me while I wipe my brow!!

Hot here in Michigan as well. In the nineties today with 97 predicted for tomorrow. Glad I have to work - the office is air conditioned.

I've been absent the forum for a bit. I work outside. It has been brutal. Forecasts for tomorrow range from 96 to 102 F, index up to 10 degree's higher. I'm drinking gallons of Gatorade and water, and sweating the equivalent. The missus insists that I undress in the garage, wring out my clothes and drop them in the washing machine on the way to the shower. If I don't get some significant rain soon, I'll have to water for the first time this year. FBG

 Kay hope your drinking a lot of water when you are out in the heat. Hope it does rain.

Calvinjane: I am so thankful for the air conditioning we have. I hope everyone stay hydrated and at least have fans to help them stay cool if they have no air conditioning.

FBG: Please stay safe in working out in this horrible heat. With sweating like that you may have to change your name to SBG-skinnybaldguy. No not sweatybaldguy. :) I feel for those who have to work out in this weather. The weatherman said that we will have a break from this high humidity. I won't hold my breath either.

Tooty- You are so kind to be concerned for me. We have 5 gallon water coolers on our trucks. Drinkin lots of H2O out there.
It is one of the weekly subjects brought up at our saftey meetings. We talk a lot about ways to stay cool and safe while working outdoors.
Don't want any of us dropping on the ground while landscaping. No siree!

Carolyn & Kay: we all need to be careful in this heat. Gosh, with as hot as it is we all could stew in our own juices way to fast. Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can crawl into my refridge. Then I'll be as cool as a cucumber. :D :D

It is even hotter here than it was, has been up to 100' F the past few days-- in the shade in late afternoon! The humidity is high also, but no chance of rain here. Not until those tropical disturbances in the Atlantic turn into hurricanes and tropical storms and come up from the Gulf of Mexico. It will take a few good hurricanes to break the drought in the south and get us some much needed rain.

I have been watering for over a month already, and things are still bone dry here. Whatever showers we did have, have long since evaporated. I am doing as little as possible outdoors, mostly just watering my plants and playing with the hose and cold ice water. And taking multiple ice cold showers per day. Despite all of the precautions, I still get a bit of heat exhaustion frequently.

IT IS 61 DAYS UNTIL FALL ARRIVES ON THE CALENDAR. Inquiring minds might want to know. I have flowers blooming, but it is so hot and dry they look pretty sad. Poor babies. I could run my well 24/7 and not get them enough water. :(

AAnightowl: soo sorry to hear that you guys are still in the thick of this heat wave. :( Hope you get some rain soon. One can live without a lot of food. But water is something one can not do without for very long.
Our weather is pretty nice hear today as we are under the influence of a cold front. PHEW!
Say instead of taking all those showers you could fill up the tub, put in ice cubes, grab a cool one and jump in. That way you wouldn't have all your precious water going down the drain. Take care and stay out of heat as much as possible.

Tooty, I love showers and hate tub baths. I haven't had a 'bath' since I had the shower put in back in 2000. ;) I have read that showers use less water than a tub bath anyhow. The water that goes down my drain waters my woods on the one side of my property--no septic tank. It eventually ends up back in my 230 ft well anyhow after being filtered by all that limestone.
