Philip you have GOT to visit that friend more often!! We want to see his garden in all its glory throughout the seasons. He certainly has a little piece of paradise there.

    Hi Eileen,
i will keep it up to date!,..he claims its not yet at its best,?.. so its a must to see what he means.
I went to visit another friend over the weekend,..alas his garden has not had a lot done to it since i last worked on it about 5 years ago,..i lived there for a few years and had my organic vegetable garden there,..plus all my hens and ducks,..i didn't have to pay for the use of the land nor the sheds for the fowl,..but i maintained his garden,..in fact added lots of stuff to the estate,..60 acres of land of which there was 6 acres of woodland,..a river running through with nice brown trout, :) .

I posted some shots of the estate elsewhere in the forum some time back,..but there are new ones here as well.

This area should be the main garden area,..the path has overgrown,..there were two Clematis on the steps,..both seem to have died and the arches are gone,..the roses are still there but sadly neglected.

I was sure i took a picture of the rose area,..but seem to have lost it,..anyway i will be visiting again as i was invited to do some gardening,..if i felt like it??,..having seen how things are i just might!,..but its time for me to be on the river and lake soon,..mmmm,..thinking,..thinking.

I went to visit Davey's garden,..he was home this time but laid up with a badly cut shin,..slipped off a fence and cut himself with barbed wire,..so just a brief run around his garden.

The words I kept muttering to myself were "I want".
I want to go visit Davey's estate. (Breathtaking)
I want that red/white/blue planter. (Exquisite)
I want that old pump. (Charming)
I want that waterfall & pond. (Beautiful)
I want to look at the photos again... and I will!
Sorry to hear of Davey's injury. I hope he'll heal quickly.
Thanks Philip for another tour of his estate. I think I've used up all my superlatives in just one post!

    Hi Cheryl,
Davey went to check on his brothers horses,..and so the accident,..right on the shin,..so with stitches and because of the injury location i figure he will be out of action for some time.

His flowers are very colourful,..but that grass sure is lush green.

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Hi Droopy,
i would love the estate myself,..its another world,.."ye olde world",..even the hen house is still complete since victorian times,..all rows of red brick nests,..three tiers high,..the stables remain the same,..dozens of stalls.

My reason for not starting the veg garden is due to the fact the plot was allowed become overgrown for i think six or seven years so you can imagine it needs to be worked on with a plough/plow just before the spring.

I spent from early afternoon today on the Victorian Estate,..clearing out weeds from part of the rose garden,..not just weeds,..there were small Elder Trees growing among the roses,..and Purple Loosestrife,..thistles and nettles,..and i had forgotten my gloves,..ouch,..the picture below will give you some idea of how overgrown it got.

    ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )

Using a hoe and a spade,..but close to the roses had to be done by hand,..the following shots are at a distance,..but after several hours work,..slight change,..but after tomorrow it should look better.

Just to the left of Molly you will see a break in the grass,..i used to have my potato growing along there and up to the wall ahead,..it took three people several days to lift the crop.

That was great Philip. I take it you are going to go back and start gardening there again? It is lovely, even though it has been neglected. Keep us up to date.

    Hi Carolyn,
yes i will be going out there again,..and hope to make a visit a few times each week,..preparing the ground to start a veg garden will be tough seeing the state its in,..there are over 100 apple trees planted in the walled area,..never touched since i left,..but at least once the weeds and grass are gone there is great soil beneath,..i might put down sheets of plastic so by next spring there will be nothing beneath,..anyway lots to think about before then,..Molly is exhausted,..and me feeling the old muscles aching,..lol.

Philip... my back and legs and arms are aching just from seeing all the work you put in today!
Molly looks like she didn't want to leave.
You will keep us up-to-date on all of the work and progress at Davey's, won't you?

The picture below shows what the rose circle looked like before i started on it.

Its harder than i expected,..each rose bush has to be "found" in some cases,.. as the grass has covered them,..or the Elder Trees have dwarfed them,..so its remove grass and the like by hand,..then start on the heavy stuff,..alas some rose bushes have died,..but you can now begin to see some roses,..oh the circle is 42 foot wide,..i have only completed half this area.

Hudson sure doesn't look impressed... or entertained by all your hard work. Maybe you should make more of an effort to make sure he doesn't get bored. Perhaps a bit of juggling or dancing? ;)
