We weren't flooded either Philip as we too are on higher ground thankfully. Your 'rabbit and blackbird' photograph would make a great caption competition picture - I can already think of a few comments I could add to it. We don't see many terns around here but we do get quite a number of Great Crested Grebes as well as Little Grebes (known here as Dabchicks.) Black headed gulls tend to congregate around land fill sites and they follow the ploughs in the fields. The only place we seldom see them nowadays is on the seashore. A bird that has been seen increasingly hereabouts is the Oystercatcher - striking in its black and white plumage and with their orange legs and bill. I just wish they weren't quite so noisy!!
Eileen,..nice to see you weren't flooded,..many houses were flooded here from December with the noise of pumps going 24 hours,..i heard some people complain about the cold?,..which was beyond me as i was feeling warm when out and about,..except when i went to Galway Bay,..wind blowing in from the sea. I haven't spotted any Oystercatcher as yet,..then again we really had no shoreline for ages,..oh i went down to the area where the road was flooded,..its all clear,..green fields where the Swans were swimming,..the start of this road is about five minutes walk from the house. September. December. 11th December. Water has dropped. Water Hen nesting. Someone was fishing and lost a good Spoon Bait. The Canal. Where the Canal meets the River Shannon. I am standing on this Bridge.
