Are you in USA or Canada for it to get as cold as that?

Love the conversation on water storage. My new home is placed so water collection and distribution should be easier but I have not gone beyond having gutters prepped for diverting water well away from the house. Land leveling for tanks will be necessary and figuring out the best placement. Any preferred informational sources?

All interesting stuff, never really thought much beyond sweeping the snow off the roof.

I used to live in the West, now I'm in the East i've noticed the pitch of the roofs is steeper on the older building here, guess they expect more snow coming over from the continent on Easterly winds.

Live in Coastal mountains of USA . The Pacific Northwest.
Some years lately we have some really cold winters unusual but since global warming winters have been brutal.

Our winters have been getting milder.

I didn't water much this summer despite the drought. I watered by hand some crops in the community garden & also the newer plants at home. Our town asked us not to water so we didn't.

Same here Cayuga, and it surprised me that so many plants in my new beds actually survived. I thought I'd lose far more than I did.

I couldn’t emagine how many trees shrubs and other plants I would loose if I never watered during a heat wave in the summer. Most of my hydrangea collection for sure.

Mine just hunkered down. I did water one newish hydrangea after it began looking like boiled lettuce. It perked right up. So far, i don't think I've lost any plants.

CM. Oh yes the hydrangeas will shrivel up in heat and direct sun. I have a few to move this year since a few trees removals offer them zero shade. The whole watering system on 3 acre garden is on a watering program called B-hyve. All automatic on iPhone , computer or iPad. It waters by zones programmed. So easy and I have more time for other things. It’s the best thing I ever did garden related.
