I did a test using Vicks (medicated rub) for keeping the mosquitoes off of you and it doesn't work. Vicks is strong and people use it for colds...I thought, I had it so I gave it a try. I put it on my shoulders and elbows,my wrists and on my ears and it didn't bother them one bit.. I think the smell bothered me more than the hungry critters. Now for a shower to get the smell off of me. Now sjoerd I can hear you chuckling...
I found this article while checking out natural ways to help repel the mosquitoes. http://www.project.nsearch.com/profiles ... e=activity
after the trinity river comes out of the banksIn Texas We have buffaloeKNATSAND TURKEY knatsThe ranchers always puts vanilla flavoring on them selves.I HAVE USED THIS AND IT WORKED FOR ME AVON SKIN SO SOFT WORKS FOR ME>the knats can and does make big bumps lots of people have allergies to themthey don't seem to stop itching.
I tried using pure vanilla extract the other day and it didn't work on our mosquitoes. I sure did smell good, a lot better than with the vicks...ha,ha...I have used skin so soft and on me, it didn't work. I am waiting for some organic mosquito lotion...I ordered it from a soap company on line...I am hoping it comes today.
They had hints for getting rid of mosquitoes in your yard and/or how to avoid getting bites on the local news just a couple of weeks ago. 1. Plant Rosemary - they hate it. 2. Build a bat cave out back - each bat eats 600 mosquitoes per hour. 3. Hang a Bounce dryer sheet in your pocket. FYI - We have a TON of Rosemary and although they don't hide in it, we still have big Texas skeeters. The black and white ones aren't deterred by anything! I refuse to build a bat cave! The Bounce can't be the store brand or generic. Rumor has it that mosquitoes love diabetic blood!
I have found some relief from using the "Citronella Mist " from herbaria...it is a soap company. It is 100% natural repellant. I think the best help has been the WIND..a breeze just blows them away....and we did move the bird bath away from the bushes so we are not attacked when we feed the birds as much. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
I bought a bottle of citronella oil (100%) Drop a few drops in my palm and add a little water so it spreads farther and rub on any exposed skin and up under the ends of my sleeves and skort or what ever I am wearing. I just got this last week and tried it as I was out picking in the garden and does seem to be very effective.
