I just had a look around as a visitor using Opera and none of the US sites I visited had the cookies message but I went to Kew Gardens....Kew.org and the message was at the bottom of the home page. Possibly it is a matter of where the site originates that determines whether visitors get the message or not.
It is possible to decide whether to show the message by looking at the visitor's IP address and determining the country of origin. That would require extra development and keeping up to date with which IP addresses represent which country. Also, as we've seen this weekend, which countries are in the EU. For me having a visitor click a button once is a fair trade off for now. However if it became an issue a more sophisticated approach would be required.
I'm content with clicking the button,..thereafter i don't see it again until i Log In another time,..most Sites i visit inform me that they use Cookies,..though there are others who don't display this but mention that they do in Forum Info. I agree it would be quite another chore to have to look up an IP Address in order to inform,.. or not have to inform that Cookies are used.
I think my request was misunderstood and the whole issue here had been blown out of proportion. The notice itself is not an issue, it is just a simple request of placing just where the notice appears, other than that everything is OK. If the notice need to be at the bottom of the page it is OK with me, I just have to move the cursor a little further to click on the "OK, Got it" button after log in.
I get what you mean now KK To answer your questions about the positioning, I had moved it up to the top recently but decided to move it to the bottom again as when it appeared at the top it would proceed to push the content down the page which was a bit disconcerting for new visitors. So it's at the bottom for aesthetic reasons BTW I liked this discussion as it's always great to get site feedback in any form.
Yes it was a great discussion. Today I use Edge and it did not appear at all but with Chrome and IE, it appear. OK I now understand why you changed it back to the bottom, no problem for me and I think I'll be using Edge from today onwards .
