My brother read somewhere that in order for Pecan trees to produce well, there should only be a certain number per acre. So he's thinning out 4 of them and leaving the rest... I believe there's at least 4 more that will stay. We tried to convince him to leave them all even if they didn't produce because they do make nice shade trees. I guess I can kind of see his side of it though... would be nice to have more pecans to eat.

But Pecan growers in west Texas have way more than 4 per acre and their crops production is fine except for bad weather conditions.

He said it's something about how much water they need... which I'm sure we have more than in West Texas... maybe they irrigate?
One of the trees is really old and hasn't produced in years... plus it's beginning to lean. Sure don't want it blowing down in a hurricane. So that one's not big loss. The others... well... if it were up to me, I'd just leave alone. But...
We just have to pick and choose which battles are worth fighting when it comes to him.

Cheryl, my great grandparents have 500 acres of pecan in Arkansas, they make a living from the fall harvest. It looks like a forest, all trees old and 'kissing' they bring in great hauls and have never cut or pruned. MMM, I wonder where he read that?
Edit:BTW, I too am jealous of your fruit trees! I just ordered 2 carmine jewel dwarf cherries from gurneys...i miss having cherries in this moderate climate, going to give them a try. :)

    Another thought Cheryl,
Is he secretly a furniture builder and just wants the wood? Wink

Bodhi... I have no idea of where he got his info. But he can be so stubborn at times. Oh well... at least we got a bunch of fruit trees out of him!
And we can always use the wood in the BBQ pit!

Droopy... he can be likeable and at the same time very aggravating! :D
Since he's gotten those trees, I've been thinking of all sorts of stuff to do with the fruit. I can't wait for some peach cobbler and blackberry pie and... never mind... the list is too long to type! :D
