What have you done today in the Garden?

Just when I was Gung-ho for gardening, Winter (almost) has returned. Dreary, cold, windy days brought a quick stop to planting . I'm not a happy gardener this week.

 

I hear you pains. But the rain finally let up yesterday. Had an entire day of sunshine. But it was a little chilly. I got nothing done in my garden. But did manage to get the yard mowed.

 

Three toms are already up. I am over the moon.
Chin up, GP better weather is on its way.

. Here too. Nice for a week or so and then back to the nasty stuff. Out weather is too wet too get into the garden now. It was dry to the point of making dust then we got 3 inches of rain from Friday to Monday and more in the forecast. 80% Thursday Friday Sat....

 

The onions we harvested are hanging in the barn to dry. This is about one-third of the onions we have, with the rest still in the ground and maturing.

The red onions are later to mature, but the yellows and whites are coming along nicely!
(I think we'll soon need to stretch more rope to hang onions.)

 

planted up "6 packs" for the greenhouse today. really a "garden to go" ...a handled basket of plants. 2 tomatoes, 2 peppers ,a parsley and a basil plant. or a Salsa garden or an herb garden... great for the person who only wants or needs a few plants. and mowed the grass in between the rain yesterday and the rain forecasted for tomorrow.

 

I'm delighted to have onions coming up. potatoes coming up, Siberian Kale barely above soil.
Today I dug around the Birdbath, being careful not to disturb the very old Buttercups which I transplanted from my sister's father in law's country home many years ago. I alternated Begonia and Viola plants. Then I replaced the ring of rocks around .

On the windowsill toms, beans and capucijners are coming up.
The rain sort of fits in with the day--it is a memorial day here today where we remember those who died during the WW2 period. There will be a silent procession through town to where 5 randomly-chosen innocents were killed by a german firing squad back then. Serious business today.

 

On Tuesday I found Delphiniums at the garden center, and since the ones I planted last year somehow didnt return this year, I bought and planted them. I was going to do more, but it was windy that day, and trying to garden in the wind just upsets me, so I gave up. And the rest of the week has been too wet and chill to do more gardening

 

Nothing yet, but I am off to see what I can do.

 

Took the tiny lettuce plants outside for a sunbath. After about 4 hours, brought the tiny lettuce plants onto the patio and into a protected area.
Gardening time was very short, but I have faith that it will return.

 

We dug potatoes this morning. What a blessing to have a husband with strong legs and a lot of patience! We dug, then brought them inside to sort (small, medium, and large) and put into the pantry where it is relatively cool and definitely dark.

The trench method of planting definitely works for us!

Ohhhh don't they look good, though. They look clean as well.

Went to the garden today after visiting a bee market. We weeded and noticed that some of the spuds (Harlequin) were just peeking through the soil. We may rake a bit of soil over the leaves tomorrow. tomorrow will be a big work day for us.
We did some schoffeling as well and picked some bluebells for the vase at home.
