What have you done today in the Garden?

I walked around checking on everything when I got home from work like I normally do. Hooked up one of those sprinklers to get it adjusted properly to water the "big bed" to help manage my watering time better. And then it was dark.

 

Just watered my plants and checked they are alright.

 

Yesterday I planted a flowering maple (southern charm) with portulaca. And released ladybugs. Checked this morning and they are still here.

I have done ladybugs before. It is always so much fun to do that.

Well, We planted 16 rows of sweet corn. another row of zukes and 3 leftover tomatoes from the greenhouse grow. Worked in the greenhouse, planted up 5 flats of cukes, a flat of peppers and tomatoes, watered the hanging baskets again....

 

I had started stabilizing and redoing a ten foot wide brick step up in our sloping garden. Got it about half done when the terrentrial rains began. The streets are flooded and the rain can't soak into the ground fast enough to avoid puddling water. Guess I'll have to hang out inside today. Maybe even do a little cleaning. (Deep sigh)

 

I weeded! And placed rocks This area had been full of grass and dandelions. Little buggers grew right over the cardboard I laid down

While I was giving everything a nice slow drink,I pulled weeds. Also planted a few flowers. I'll be doing the same in front tomorrow after I get the mowing done.

 

I've never grown sweet corn. I have some gift seed, is the soil temp high enough?

I filled in the onions rows that didn't make it. This is the second time I had a 50% failure rate with onions from that source. Never will buy onions from them again. Hoe'd out the onions, garlic and asparagus. With 20 crowns, I can't eat it fast enough. We're gonna try creamed asparagus soup next.

 

too bad on those onions, FBG. Did you plant them deep or just set them firmly "on" the soil? Planting them deep is sure to kill them. We put ours firmly in contact with the soil and let them grow.

The ground temp was 60 when we checked it. the corn is a couple varieties that are cold tolerant and are supposed to germinate well in it. this was actually the second planting. K got a patch in last week, too. 16 rows in that one, too. We have almost 1/2 acre to get planted. We will plant a 16 row block every week as weather permits.

 

Mowed the grass and gave everything a nice long drink and pulled weeds. Still one more bed to go.

 

Walked along the edge of the garden avoiding the miry mud. Waiting patiently for the rains to stop and the cold wet soil to dry and warm up. :frown:

We got our topsoil delivery and filled the raised bed this past weekend!
I finally planted some peas, beans, carrots, radishes, and lettuce, and also planted some broccoli and kohlrabi seedlings.

Hopefully, we can get the sunny garden ready for the tomatoes soon. We haven't done much with that, though. We still have to mend the fence.

I went through all of my old pots and dumped the dead houseplants and spent soil into the compost area, pulled a bunch of weeds and vines and ended up getting poison ivy. Delightful. Soooo ichy. Oh well.
I also cleaned out an old large trash bin and am going to use that as a rain catch.
