A beautiful weekend gone to waste!
My other half mowed the lawn and got ready to go to work. He worked all weekend. All I could do was clean the deer fence and put some wood where it is supposed to go, but no real fence mending happened. Maybe this coming weekend we'll get it done and I can get my impatient squash in the ground. So many blossoms going to waste!
My little inch long squash is yellow now. I guess I'll pluck it and eat it. Should I share it with him? lol!
I have been putting the veggie plants outside during the day for some sun and fresh air, hoping that the pollinators will show some interest. The spiders definitely are interested!
The shade garden is doing very well. Half of my purple beans are sprouted, 75% of my peas are sprouted and growing quickly, all of my radishes are sprouted, the lettuce and carrots look like they are doing well. I think the swiss chard is sprouted, but I can't be sure if it is the chard or a weed yet since I only planted two seeds. I'll keep my eye on it.

Planted some annuals, and some Vinca minor groundcover to a bare spot.
Moved some of the limestone edgers to make the front bed a bit bigger, so it makes more sense! ;)
Planted another Georgia Peach Heuchera. (I just had to add to my collection!)
Watered, and am so pleased with all my plants, they are lookin good!!

I cleaned up the greenhouse and watered everything. Mowed all the grass, Adrian came home and got a machine down to the road and scooped up all of the soil that he could and replaced it in the one area of the garden. We tilled that and kevin replanted something there. I trimmed under the appletrees. I also helped the neighbor mow his "pasture". He hasn't gotten it mowed yet this Spring. they are the tenants not owners, but do all the yard work. The owner hasn't fixed the mower yet and it is a MESS! so, I volunteered to help him mow and he was willing to let me. That was the first time in the last 10 years, or so, that I have mowed his grass. It looks awful, but it is mowed. somewhat. I have been trying to get flowers planted in the bed since we have a grad party in a couple weeks, too. they probably won't look like much by then though.

What have you done in the garden today?

Planted cucumber seeds in two big pots. PLanted two rows of carrots / got them too thick as usual, but the seeds are SO small.

    Weeded, weeded, weeded.

Set the Wave Petunias in the porch rail pots and 6 big pots around the edge of the porch. I had set out the Seed Geraniums across the road yesterday..

I mulched the tomatoes with the grass clippings from mowing yesterday; picked squash to take to the food pantry tomorrow; picked green beans and more lettuce (my husband swears he can feel his ears growing like a rabbit's); and made two more wine bottles of red wine basil vinegar.
Cleaned the indoor chicken coop and added more bedding to the nest boxes. I swear I do not know what they do with their bedding--it just disappears!

I found my first tomatoes. They are the size of a pea, but they are there.

Harvested strawberries. Checked for pests. Found that my Ta Tsai were infested with "soil flea"(Phyllotreta nemorum). --A misnomer as they do not belong to the family of blood-sucking fleas.
They had to be sprayed with soapy water with a drop of white spirits.

Tied-up the toms in the greenhouse and planted another melon plant. Harvested another iceberg lettuce.

Welll, After my market on Sat.we laid plastic and planted planted 120 tomatoes, then yesterday I spent the day outside starting in the high tunnel picking strawberries then on to planting peppers. I think I did about 100. waited on customers ( I have gotten my exercise with all the walking I am getting in) had my sister over for dinner and then we all went across the road and weeded and thinned the corn.

Yesterday I cleaned out one of the water lily containers and the fountain. Yucky job but had to be done. Even discovered that two fish survived the winter. Also picked blackberries. I may get one more good batch and I think they'll be done.

    Finally finished mending the fence.
Turned the bed and threw in some alfalfa pellets. I'll probably rake in some Jobe's Organic today too, if I can beat the storm. I was planning on planting yesterday, but ran out of time. I figured I'd do it today but we are expecting some hail storms in the area and I don't want to expose my little seedlings to that. I guess I'll have to do it tomorrow.
Also, I wanted to rake some alfalfa pellets into the shade bed, but I spotted a little chipmunk. I certainly don't want to give the little guy any ideas by spreading alfalfa over the bed, as there is no fence around it yet. I'll probably just use the Jobe's on that and leave it. I'll water with fish emulsion. That should be sufficient until we can get the fence built.

The little chipmunk was sooo cute. He came running out of my work area and stopped when he spotted me. He just sat there, about 3 feet away, watching me. I then heard a noise and, when I looked up, saw the neighbor's cat climbing over the fence to go back home. I guess my presence saved the little guy from certain death. It is funny that they know to run to a human when a cat is around. That is the second time it has happened to me. The first time was 20 years ago at a friend's house when a chipmunk ran right into my hands and climbed onto my shoulder. I put my arm up, hand to a tree and the little guy scampered up the tree to safety.

Yesterday, I raked in some Jobe's Organics before it started to rain. Perfect timing!
I hope to get the seedlings planted today!
