We picked our first tomato today:

Good things come in small packages, including the first Sungold tomato of the season. We split it at lunch, a bite each. Aren't you proud of me for not eating it on the way back to the house?

    Congrats on the first one!
How did you ever manage to make it all the back to the house without losing it down your gullet?

    I am full of admiration.

Sojerd, it wasn't easy! The few I saw turning red today will probably, maybe, make it to the house. No guarantees!

I sprayed the peach trees and also gave the hibiscus a good bath of Neem oil since something has been dining on their leaves. Jane I'm still waiting on my first tomato. I can pretty much tell you now that it won't make it to the house. :stew2:

    Congrats on your first tomato!
    Looks yummy.

I didn't get to plant my seedlings yesterday as I hoped. It was too cold and dreary. I guess it was good that I didn't because the nighttime low fell to the low 40s. I hope to do it today; definitely no later than Sunday.

2 Watermelon plants went missing last night, so replanted them. Tied up tomatoes. Picked shelling peas. Going to plant more beans today when it drys up a little more.

Had a big harvest of strawbs this evening. Was busy with all the bee hives most of the day today.

Saturday I was late arriving home. I had about a half-hour or so to try and get some planting done. I did as much as I could until it was dark and I couldn't see anymore. Most of it is done; just finished yesterday, but discovered that I have to plant more beans. I planted 4 in my shade bed about a month ago. Two are doing well, the third sprouted but appears to have been snipped somehow and died. The forth didn't sprout. I did plan to put more in the sun garden but I'm not sure I have the space for them anymore. I'll see what I can do about that.
I figure I can plant my potted celery in the shade garden, in the spots where those beans were supposed to be.
It is amazing that no matter how I draw it out, I can always fit much more in my drawing than I can in the actual garden. Why is that?
Anyway, I hope to get the beans in either today or tomorrow, and then I can relax. The most difficult part is over.

Yesterday I pick beets. This morning I canned them. I started a few beet seeds in my cold frame last winter just to see how it might work out. It was well worth it.

    Ooo, those look good. Congrats!
How long did they take to grow?

I'm trying carrots and radishes this year, and I have no idea how to know when they are ready to pull.
I also want to try potatoes next year.
Are these veggies all things that I need to keep a close eye on the calendar for?

Silly me, just finished planting my gardens, beginning the wait for the harvest, and I'm already planning for next year!

I picked 14 pints of strawberries, fed the chickens, planted 3 knockout roses and have been waiting on customers in between.... lots of walking getting done.

Beeker, Beets are cool season. Early spring or late summer. Appox. 55-65 days to digging.
