Finally. picked some of my mustard greens. Too many to pick at one time. Have no idea if they are good to eat at this size, but they sure are beautiful when I drive down the driveway.

 

Hummer, never having grown Mustard, I'm not sure
when they become tough. I froze some overgrown
Kale and it is slightly tough. Good eating however.
I would chop the MUstard in tiny bits and eat it.

Being southern by birth, I usually keep the
traditional New Year's Day meal. Blackeyed peas
and greens. At home, it was Turnip greens, or as Mother
said, "Sallet". I use whatever greens I have.

 

Gave the lawn an early feed and some iron sulphate for the patches of moss. The grass is growing and as our golf club greenkeeper has been feeding the greens, I don't think I've wasted my time.

Oh, I am well jealous that you are harvesting greens already.
We went to the allotments to help with the unloading of some second-hand lumber that we could have for repairs and so forth.
Soup and coffee and tea afterwards.

 

Hubby trimmed more of the holly and i took some cuttings from it.

 

Strimming and chainsawing.

 

I believe we're in for an early Spring!
Our Cilantro and Parsley have survived Winter.
Snow can be a blanket.
I am beginning to think of Spinach and Lettuce seeds being sowed.

 

I bet we freeze our flowers off as usual.

 

@Sjoerd...i'm actually a bit late because I planted them late. They love the cool weather. I actually have nice size broccoli that i may pick also. This wknd I'm sticking all or most of the bulbs i bought for fall planting in every spot that I can find. Was trying to wait to see if we were going to have more 'warm' spells so that the bulbs wouldn't start peaking before time, but if i wait any longer, I may not have a spring show. Don't worry y'all..they are in the fridge in the 'she/he' shed... about 500 bulbs. Been working on building my 'soil' and I love it...i believe the added layer of straw mulch has not let the plants go dormant. The blue salvia is still in gear and so is the pineapple sage. Believe I'm finding those micro-climates that people talk about. Two weeks ago, built a starter bed for my colossal elephant ears, cannas and other tropicals (that will be the backdrop behind the pool cage with a thick layer of each: mulched leaves, shredded paper, spent comfrey/mustard greens/elephant ears (yes i still have elephant ears growing..small but growing), compost and straw/hay. Covered it with deer fencing. Have the other side to build up. Buried food scraps in the beds and have been all fall/winter. Fed my tomato plants (1st feeding), which are off and running...see pic. I've even noticed that the days are getting longer and i'm soooooo excited about the new growing season. Hopefully, a lot of new plants added to balance both sides of the house. Oh and let me not forget my new helper....MY MOTHER!!!

 

Oh Hummer--You are such a special gardener. I can still recall your hydroponic ventures, the plant thefts that you had to endure and then the daunting task of conceiving and setting up growing areas on the grounds of your new home property. You have come a long way and must be well chuffed with how its going. You are a real gardener now and are developing your own way.
What a bonus you are for yourself and family, but also for this forum.
