Today I picked a few peppers, a few tomatoes, pulled more Bindweed, set out more Mums.
I have a picture of the spots on our faux spinach and thought someone might recognize the problem, but I may not be able to post the picture. Here goes a try.

I posted the photo in my garden, but I can't figure how to post it in forums, so please look in my garden photos and help.

I cleaned out the greenhouse and planted pak choi in there.

It was also time to prune the plum trees, so I did that as well.

It quit raining for about 5 hours today so I picked up all my yard ornaments, Gnomes, frogs, animals, etc. and put them away. Our winters are too nasty to leave them out. Then it started raining again.

Hiya GROWING PAINS-- I had a look at your foto. Those spots look like insect damage to me...OLD damage, BTW.
I would have liked to see the undersides of a leaf or two. Why don't you have a look in the garden and very slowly and carefully turn a few leaves over and see if you can see any insects or ...well, anything at all really, and let us know. Especially note how the underside of the leaves look where those spots are located.

It has the appearance also of a type of fungus. One can see this on blackberry leaves and on the leaves of various other sorts of bushes.

Phragmidium violaceum is one such fungus.

What do you mean you "pruned the plum trees"? We never prune in the Fall and in the Spring it is after they flower....What do you do different to yours?I still haven't gotten plums though... some day.

Sjoerd, I tried feeding the fake spinach and also added Nitrogen pellets to the soil. I took off the affected leaves and the new growth seems fine. It sure tastes good. Thanks for your input.
The underside is the same, but less prominent.

Hiya C--It isn't a normal time to prune, but I had a situation that needed some attention, and I had been putting it off for a while until the weather was, would be and had been dry for a few days. I had a rotten branch due to wind damage, so it was high time that I pruned that away.
I hope that you get some plums next year. I let a tree go six years once without a single plum. Finally I pulled the tree up and planted something else in the garden.

GP--I realize that it is too late to talk about nitrogen pellets, but I do hope that you gave your plants only a "light" sprinkling. Green, leafy plants can take-up too much N, y'know.
It is good to hear that your plants are now doing well.

Started filling the cold frame this week. Flushed all my house plants. Bringing them in today. Scrubbed the greenhouse inside and out. Rich is building new shelving as the old one were beginning to fall apart. New ones will be made out of PVC pipe. Going to Florida in a couple of weeks to visit friends, so trying to get it all done before.

S, that was what I was wondering. My tree is young and looks great, but nothing set fruit this year. I guess I wasn't surprised since it was so bitter cold last Winter, so maybe next Spring/Summer will be more productive. I went and bought 1/2 bu of them yesterday. I am going to dry them and see if we like them that way. I canned them one year and they are still in the pantry. I heard yesterday that my dad likes them so they will find their way to his house soon. My mom took me to pick up my van at the service station and we stopped at a few places that sell produce. I got the plums, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, acorn squash and pears for the pantry. Now I have to wait on the pears to ripen so I can can them.

Nothing much, except watering the green beans, cucumbers, and peas. The peas are just now coming up, the cucumbers are flowering, and so are the beans. I did pick a few peppers and some cherry tomatoes.
I really need to weed since the rain we had last week encouraged the little devils, but the soil is still pretty damp and I hate to tromp around and compact it. (Also, if I wait long enough my husband will get the tiller out and till the weeds under ;) ).

I transplanted a good sized shrub big enough I had to get DH to help lift it out of the old spot and put it in the new place. Then planted 36 daffodils and tulips. Thought I had planted them all but spotted another package of 6 free bulbs the company sent me. They can wait until tomorrow, I'm pooped.
