WOW Sjoerd, it seems early for planting seed, but perhaps your weather is more dependable than ours. I usually buy Blue Lake bush bean plants.
You mention taxes. Does that mean you must pay a tax on your lotties?

Taxes...chuckle no, I mean governmental taxes. We pay them yearly. I am happy to pay taxes, but it so complicated.

The broad beans, like peas can be planted early. In the past, I have planted them in november and they can come through the winter oké. The type that I used was “Aquadulce. This bean sort can take freezing, to a degree.

Sjoerd, I suppose someone must pay taxes on the lotties.
Every inch of ground must be taxed. LOL

@Sjoerd aquadulce broadbeans, yeah I plant this variety too. Normally I plant them in February, because when I planted them in November, a late frost for 3 days at the end of April killed their flowers. My peas too. The plants were ok, but production was not top.

A view of some of the garden. The plants in flower on the left are rocket. Otherwise there are garlic and strawberries. I transplanted 25 strawberries today.

Lots of young plants in this tunnel.

It’s raining now so nothing to do outside.

I know what you mean, Odif. I have tried all sorts of scenario’s with my broadies. The thing that got me off the early planting (the preceding year) is that I noticed once that while I had the Aquadulce’s already growing in situ, I planted a different sort to fill up the rest of the bed, and you know what? By harvest time both the Aquadulce’s and the later planted ones actually went into bloom and were harvested at exactly the same time. So, while planting the previous year saved a job in the spring, I couldn’t harvest any earlier or later. Also the main reason for early planting was to have completed harvesting the beans before the black flies came. As it turns out, I can still beat the blackfly by planting at the end of march or early may.

It was great seeing those two piccies. What will you do with the shot rocket? Are they for seed or compost?

I always enjoy seeing your foto’s and hearing your progress reports.

OH MY, Odif and Sjoerd, I feel like a lazybones. However, it would be useless to plant this early and have the little seedlings nipped in the bud. I shall just wait and watch while you two work. Your effort looks great.

@Sjoerd To answer your question, I have still lots of rocket seeds and other rocket in flower, so if I need the space for strawberries or sweet potatoes, I will compost them. I hope to have a lot of sweet potatoes this year, so I will probably need the space. I still have a lot of strawberries to plant.
