Our temps are supposed to start climbing tomorrow and be in the 70's by Saturday. I have been using the rainy/cold days to make plans for what to do when I can get out in the garden again. I have a lot of plants to dig up and move because of trees creating more shade as they get older so I will have to get those done first so they can settle in before summer heat hits.

We got several seeds started--basil, cilantro, peppers, tomatoes, and cat grass! Can't wait for the seeds to poke their little selves up!

I transplanted every thing that needed it in the GH. Started a flat of coleus. Going to work up one area in the garden and start planting a few things.

Nothing absolutely NOTHING. We still have frost in the ground and I will probably not be able to get out in the garden until the end of May.:( Yesterday I did clean out our Blue Bird houses so they have clean homes to come back too. :D

In the last 7 days we have had over 10" of rain and our yard is a swamp, complete with standing water in places. Thankfully we got our green onions in and processed and stuck some stuff in the ground last Saturday. I haven't even been out to check for sprouts yet cause its just too wet. No kneeling by the beds for a while yet or else ya will make a muddy mess around the boxes. We learned that the hard way. It does smell amazing out though, I drank coffee this morning on the porch swing and could smell the orange and lemon blossoms, with a hint of peach flavoring. When Peggy found me later and asked what i was doing just sitting there I said inhaling she laughed until she stepped out and caught a whif of the gentle breeze it's 1 pm and we just came in. I guess this is a long way to say what we did today is sit and enjoy.:)

Thought I should pass on the refresher class I just attended on fire ants. The class was put on in our yard by the Good Lord admission free. When it rains every day for a week in a row your yard becomes a soggy sponge. Any fire ants ya may have head head for high ground. Now what is the high ground in your yard? In mine its our garden boxes, flower beds compost pile and the naturally ocurring humps around trees. Since the ants are only looking for temporary shelter they havent made their tell tale mounds and if you are not careful you may be attacked by them as ya innocently do a lil weeding, or worse sit by a tree to take a break since it has a high dry spot.

Having an unbelievable start to the growing season in BC. All the berry bushes (goji, blueberries, currants, raspberries) have leaves, the figs all have leaves, peas are up over a foot already. Trying out Horseradish and Jerusalem Artichokes in containers this year. All the years seedlings are planted and about 2" plus high. I feel bad for all the East coasters.

Husband tilled up three new vegetable beds behind the barn (bless the livestock that lived here many years ago and enriched the soil) and I weeded. The weeds seem to be winning, but I intend to at least fight them to a standstill!

Today my arborist co-worker came and together we spent 5 hours trimming two large Crabapple trees. He did the climbing and cutting, I did the ground work. It was a warm windy day. So glad to have this task done, they will be healthier now.

The ground has thawed enough to move my bird feeder poles around. Bought a few new feeders and got the bird baths filled. Should be able to dig unwanted trees soon, and finish cleaning out any brush from last year.

We had 80 degrees yesterday! So bizarre. I cleaned out perennial beds and got out the mower to chop stuff up for compost and clean up after myself. Things are looking good, but dry here. I think all our weather went east this year.
