What have you done today in the Garden?

I watered and transplanted capsicum. That was this morning. This evening my daughter came with me for the first time. She harvested strawberries and helped me weed. She was suitably impressed and wants to help tomorrow morning before her school. We will see. On the walk back, she was handing out strawberries to random strangers.

I thinned out 2 of my perennial gardens. Again. The plants seem to keep growing & growing.

I also biked down to the Community Garden with my husband to have a look around.

 

Tidying the front border and sweeping the path that goes along it. Cut down 2 lupins that had finished flowering and had lupin aphids, it should flower again and hope that the aphids go away.

 

Picked about two quarts of green beans, froze half and put the others in the refrigerator for us to enjoy and to share with a non-gardening friend. Then I cut herbs (thyme, basil, and marjoram) and hung them to dry. I also cut parsley, but that will be chopped and frozen since dried parsley tastes like grass!

 

I noticed on a trail camera video that a black cat was taking an unwelcome interest in 'arry's feeding station around 3.00am this morning. It then hopped over the little wire fence I put around the azaleas to prevent cats from pouncing on the small birds. There was just a small gap that he could get through above the fence. As I had half the original roll of wire fence left, I doubled it up to give extra height. I had to buy half a dozen of those green poles from Wilko's this morning, to support it, fortunately they had just two packs of three left, Their stock availability is rubbish, so many products unavailable.
'arry doesn't help, as during the course of night he somehow manages to drag his feeding dish down to near the entrance of the feeding station. So I've had to drill a hole in the plastic dish so I can use a big cup hook to attach it to the other end of the station, so he won't be able to move it.

Just a bit of rose dead-heading, vaccing up dead white wisteria blossom and "mist spraying" the acers and the sambucus.
Will give the garden a good watering later on today. Although we're on a water meter, the garden gets the water it needs. Can't be doing about worrying about water bills as many do. Plants that could die from lack of water would cost more to replace than the extra amount on my water bills.

 

I had a wonderful couple of hours in the vegetable gardens this morning. I dibbled for potatoes to have with dinner tonight, picked squash, and picked bell peppers. We've never had bell peppers this early before! I gave the tomato plants their second pruning and discovered a bumper crop of Celebrity tomatoes--none ripe yet, but it is looking good. Tied up more cucumber vines, and found about six or seven gherkin sized cucumbers. I do hope this is a sign of things to come with the cucumbers.
I'm tired, a little dirty, and so happy!

 

I gave the garden a good watering this evening and all the pots. I'd normally mow the lawns tomorrow but due to the continual sunshine I'll leave it a few days. I'm going to set my Flymo a notch higher so for the next couple of months I won't be cutting it as short, it'll be better for the grass.

 

Transplanted capsicum this morning and aubergines this evening. I spent hours watering today.

 

I sprayed trichoderma and B.s to combat this fungal pressure that has started in our heat and overly wet condition. I really need to do some raised beds for 4-5 years and give the garden a rest.

 

Love raised beds can keep out a lot the weeds as well..win win...

 

Our veggie plot was so full of weeds so just got stuck in and hoe'd till the cow's came home...very pleased with myself....when you see the weeds start flowering...get them out...

 

Watering and weeding this morning so far. I planted maize and transplanted chillies.

Well done, DW. When you had completed your task...the feeling when you looked back over your handywork. Wasn’t that good!

 

Planted the rest of the cosmos in 3 pots that some daffodil bulbs are in and the same for some verbena bonerenses and put them under the kitchen window.

 

Just noticed the chrsanthemums have good and truly shown themselves.

some say it is too invasive it can be, but I keep mine under control, this size at max..about 1 metre as I have plenty of room here.. and if I see any young plants growing, I just pull them up and dispose them.


75% of the Drive I have now managed to clear, it has been done thoroughly
removing any signs of roots, obviously I cannot possibly get all of it out as natural
is much stronger willed than me....does not make me want to use chemicals, lots of people just let is grow over, but to me they should have screened it over before any laying of a driveway..still can be done though...
