I have purchase some pots and will repot some roses. I would love to know which arrangement you have with your local soil-monger or do you make your own potting soil for your roses?

Nothing scientific, I'm more a garden manager than a gardener.

I just use a mixture of potting compost and top soil.
I use root booster granules in the bottom of the pot.

Picked apples today--Winesaps. For some reason I thought they would all ripen at the same time. Wrong! This is the third time we've picked, and there are still some on the tree. It is fun to "hunt and seek" the ripe ones!

Looked at it and harvested chillies and tomatoes. I will have to water and harvest beans later.

Not wishing to take a chance, I've ordered another acer palmatum Taylor on-line.
I had to search over a dozen suppliers until I found one with one actually in stock, (then delete all their cookies). It was only thirty something quid.

I'll put it in the ceramic pot the original one I bought in July was in. It can go on the patio and stay there if the other picks up. Difficult to tell as the leaves will soon be falling anyway. But I'll put the new one in the shed near the window over winter, as the original one I bought last year got killed off by that hard frost in the spring.

Zilch, zero, nothing in the garden today! We went out and ordered a new Countax C60 tractor mower with a high grass mulching deck. It will be the third Countax I've had since starting the camping site about 40 years ago. This has a Kawasaki engine twin cylinder, and cuts in reverse as well as forwards.
Will use the Cub Cadet with the sweeper on to collect the leaves this autumn for Zigs to make his leaf mould though. The next shopping trip will be for new bulbs in readiness for spring.

@Tetters I've already got my tulip bulbs and hubby is going to the local garden centre for the hyacinths and hopefully some yellow crocuses.
Monty Don was planting hyacinths in pots on gardener's world so they should have some in.

Actually DM, my tractor will not have that rear end. I find that having a huge pile of clippings to deal with is a pain, and mulching is a good way to feed the grass..... with the exception of Zig's wildflower project, and that will be rough cut with the cub cadet and disposed of to make the grass weaker in favour of flowers.
Mine will have a deck like this

    Nothing today it's raining
But hubby did get the yellow crocuses and the purple ones, couldn't get the orange hyacinths but the ones that were there were small.
Got 4 packs of the yellow these and the purple will go in small pots so that i can plant them where there's some spaces.

Did my fair share of weeding this morning, and it rained - so I got a bit damp, but finished my quota. We could do with a good downpour now, not just the ''make you damp'' stuff.
