What have you done today in the Garden?

Weeded and tied up tomatoes. The Celebrities are full of blossoms, and we have small bell peppers! I took a look at the basil and think I'd best make more pesto tomorrow. Not today--laundry to fold and cats to pet!

 

More tidying today. There'll be a lot of leaves to collect over the comimg months, fortunately my new garden vac will cope well with them.
Got into the rockery today to pull out the grass that gets into the phlox. Rather time consuming as I have to dig it out with a wide bladed screwdriver, so it's just the grass roots and not the phlox I pull out..





Did the week's shopping this morning, then went into Homebase for some ericaceous compost for the new acer palmatum Taylor when it arrives. It'll go into the pot from which I took out the other one. Bought six more cyclamen at £1.75 each. Stuck four in around the acer.

Not sure how well they'll survive over the winter. Our best ones fill a narrow bed next to the kitchen window. We've had them for about fifteen years. We bought them from the same garden centre in Cornwall over three holidays in successive years.



The three York stone slabs around the acer, are very secure as they are on top of what was the koi pool waterfall and are set in concrete. I replaced the "training" sticks around the acer and pruned the clematis on the fence.



We've had these fuchsias for about thirty years, they've been "everywhere." They were "relegated" to two places behind the rhodos about ten years ago, but come up every year.

 

What variety of cyclamen did you get DR? I think ''coum'' is the hardiest one, and the ones with bigger flowers might need a bit of protection if it gets frosty.

 

I didn't actually look (other than at the colours..and price!) I'll have a look at the discarded pots tomorrow.
The ones we've had for years seem quite resiliant.

 

Started to plant out the wallflowers in place of the pot marigolds

 

Today, this morning, I tackled a load of brambles mixed with untidy holly and huge rambling roses, with a nice mixture of stinging nettles. By lunchtime I decided enough was enough and managed a little light dusting indoors before I crashed

Debkat, it's bound to disappoint when we lose something we grew.

 

a little of this and that. picked some tomatoes a bushel of peppers, watered some plants, pulled a handful of weeds... nothing too strenuous. have covid. not too sick. mostly cold like symptoms. runny nose a cough every now and then no fever no rashes no burst ear drums, no sinus infection this time around. I started doing a betadine nasal wash immediately this time. at least its not an infection on top of the virus. oh and no inhaler this time either. both of my inlaws have covid they are in the hospital. kevin had covid... sounds like we all either have it will have it or had it.

 

@carolyn, I sincerely wish all of you well. We think we had it for a full month in December 2019, and haven't felt 'right' ever since.....just glad and thankful to still be breathing.

 

Planted some more wallflowers and helped hubby tidy up after cutting the pyracantha hedge.

 

More bramble bashing this morning, and some weeding (not that much) this afternoon. In need of a trip to the nursery for some bulbs.

 

I tidied up after yet another storm event. I sprayed the garden and blew leaves. I found a neat sprayer and ordered it.

 

Nothing needed doing in the garden today, "so it didn't get done."

The acer palmatum Taylor I'd ordered arrived yesterday and I've potted it out. I've already attached wires to it to straighten it out.
It's quite small, even for £25. But there's so few available there's little choice.
They are always grafted at this size and some don't survive.
I'd rather have paid three times as much for one of a decent size. The problem is that they are slow growing and won't reach a decent size for about ten years and I might not be around then.


The cyclamen we bought on three different holidays from a garden centre near Lostwithiel ten years and more ago, never disappoint.
They will eventually fill this little bed when they all come up. I topped up the soil/compost mix earlier this year, so some will be later.




The variety of cyclamen I bought from Homebase, is called cyclamen persicum, it'a pretty common one.

 

Planted some more wallflowers, have to do a few at a time, can't do the stooping down these days.
