transplanted pepper seedlings into individual containers. began putting plants into my strawbales. i found out two things... the bales have ants (which i was warned about and expected) so i put down DE to take care of that. and i found out that mushrooms love to grow in straw bales. got 'em in every bale. do any of you know if that is a good sign or a bad sign? i will be positive and say it is a good sign until i know different.

I have been cleaning out beds in the way too long neglected back garden. We have Hackberry and Pecan trees so each Spring a lot of time is spent pulling up saplings of different sizes, the ones that hid under other plants last year and are now large enough for me to notice are the worse cause by now their tap root is already long and strong and they are a pain to pull or dig out.

Spend the entire afternoon getting a new garden started. The area was tilled a couple of weeks ago but we haven't had a chance to do anything with it until yesterday and today. My son threw in a truckload of composted manure yesterday and today we finished laying down and staking the black plastic for a weed barrier. Next step is to get the rest of the grass clumps out of the open areas and then plant seeds. Lots and lots of them. P1010142.JPG

Everyone's gardening seems to be progressing quite well.

I promised myself that the garden would be smaller this
year due to advancing age. So far, it appears there will be
plants in every nook and cranny. So much for plans.

I'm enthralled with the brilliant yellow along the roadway.
Forsythia and Daffodils celebrate the finality of a brutal
    winter.

All I I'd today was rake leaves out of the flower beds.

All I did today. I took the garden fork, dug lightly around the Raspberry plants and a Clematis vine, and scratched in worm castings and pulverized stone. I forgot what it's called. Azomite ? Maybe ? I moved the little pots containing tomato seeds, kale seeds, parsley seeds, into the house. Rather cold outside, so I'm pampering them a bit.

Not much yesterday and today. Yesterday I wandered and took photos...too wet to dig or plant. Today I have wandered and taken photos, a surprise rain storm this morning means it's still to wet to dig or plant.

I cut back the overgrowth on the garden path, and found a start of Jerusalem Sage that I didn't know was growing there, and moved it to a spot where it can grow. This photo is the mama plant. The baby is just that--much smaller! Jerusalem Sage bush.jpg
Also planted a block of corn and weeded the potatoes and onions. Now I'm trying to decide which will make me feel better--a couple of Advils, or a glass of wine. Perhaps both . . . .

Aleve and Wine are my usual choices.......the wine makes you not care about the aches and pains while the pain meds are doing their thing.

Transplanted cues, peppers, courgettes and toms.
More patch maintenance, peas and kapucijners set out and built a rack and wig-wam for them.
Weeded the beetroot, onions, spinach. Removal of some mulch. removed some spuds that I had missed when harvesting last year.
Combined bee hives. Cleaned alongside paths.
Made a decision to try sweetcorn again. Now then.....where??
Weeded and cleaned-up along the fences.

Whew, what a couple of days that was!

Planted radish carrot, and bean seeds, and got the potatoes in. The beans are a bit early, but an experiment since I have tons of seeds I seed-saved from last year.
