What have you done today in the Garden?

Thanks a mil, Mel. Those piccies are great to see. Oké, it wasn’t that particular harvest, but what you have shown is impressive. It is going well there, even though the season is racing towards its end here.

That corn looks good, what kind is it?

Nice little blueberry haul. Getting that pH right can take time. Congrats on that.

Your tom set-up is formidable. You are having such a good tom harvest.

I read with interest about the squash, apples and strawbs.

It is so interesting to follow how your season is going and listen to your plans and reasoning. You and Daniel have very different circumstances, but get excellent results. Seeing this, is one of the aspects of this website that keeps me so interested.

So then Daniel— great that you are capturing those lettuce seeds. The tom sauce packets look good.
What colour blooms will that Brugmansia have?

 

Changed the compost in 4 pots of daffodils, some are starting to sprout roots so hope to do the other 3 soon. Watered the polyanthus.

 

This variety is Trinity Bi Colour. It supposedly is one of the better ones for growing in a cooler soil. I did try Early Sunglow in the greenhouse last year and it was fabulous. I'm not sure if I could get it to grow outside, but with Daniel's recommendation on the flavour I'm going to give it a bash.

It took me aback that you couldn't grow corn because of rats?? (shudder)

 

Today was a very productive day. Hubby has been laid up for five days, but feeling much better today and wanted to get outside. When he saw my task of trying to resurect the tiered garden next to the house from an two year invasion of thimble berries, wild raspberries, fireweed, columibne, wild flowers and day lilies - he jumped in. Within three hours we had the One Tonne loaded to the brim, and I could actually see my garden again. It just meant the world to me. On my own it would have been atleast three times that long. It is no longer the "garden of shame". It needs a lot of work to be resurected, but atleast I have a fresh start. Next years exciting project.

 

Nothing much today just a bit of watering.

 

Picked some tomatoes and watered the blueberries and polyanthus.

Today was the day....I had to pick the apples. They could have stayed longer, but the gamble is always to let them finish ripening indoors, and know that I have them. Or...wake up one morning to the sign of a lovely feast for a hairy beast and perhaps a damaged tree. Four year ago I picked them and had them in locked totes on the covered porch. At 2 am Angus put up quite a fuss. We went outside to find our tote half way down the back driveway with teeth holes in the lid. The heist was interrupted! He was so close....he must have been dissapointed. Now the apples come inside hahahaha...

Considering the bird blossom damage in the fall, I was happy to see one and a half 5 gallon pails. They are Norgold Apples, and the largest will be sliced and frozen for winter pies. The remaining and the pie trimmings will soon be juiced for Red Pepper Jelly. ( Just have to get to town in a couple of weeks to buy some red peppers). There is still enough apple sauce in the pantry for next year.

Picking the apples is a definite page turn in the book of seasons.

What an amazing story about the ursine marauder. You are ahead of me with apple harvest. I can hardly wait. Glad to hear your apples are now safe. Chuckle.

 

Nah...no pic. Not sure what happened there L...could have been anything at my hands hahahaha. or my internets- it has a mind of it's own. Little bit creepy at times actually.....

 

That's the same with me, haven't got a clue.

 

The brugmansia had its first flower. Sweetly fragrant. There are more buds.



Morning glories


The dwarf tomatoes are producing like crazy. Today I'll make a tomato pie.


That middle strainer is mixed, salad tomatoes and romas.

The Tropical Light ing rose I planted this spring is blooming again.

 

Daniel, those are good looking flowers, especially that Brug. that I asked about.
Tja, but the harvest— goodness, gracious me!
