What have you done today in the Garden?

Congrats with your leaf haul too, Pacnor.
This is the time for collecting leaves for making leaf mould, composting or plant mulching. It sounds like you are on the way there.

 

Today I started clearing out the annuals in the sunnier part of the meditation garden / border. I moved a few perennials there, which were in the shady part - coreopsis, sage, and a small rosemary bush. I moved a 2 x 6 board there for edging. Then I stepped on a long rusty nail sticking out of board. The rest of the day was at urgent care. Tetanus shot is updated, antibiotic started, the Xray didn't reveal any bone damage, and I stopped cursing at myself for being stupid and clumsy, because I'm too tired now.

 

Daniel..ooh no.. not a rusty nail.. tetanus shot updated. I keep mine updated usually boosters horse poo can cause tetanus.
So not the greatest news , did the nail go right thru your shoe. Isn’t that how it goes when ya least expect it.. wham a nail and a rusty on at that.so sorry..I did that a few years ago smarts like crazy.

Daniel i hope that it heals soon, good thing to get a tetanus and antibiotics, salt water to bath it is good.

 

Yesterday i had 30 hyacinths arrive and planted them this morning, just at the back of the polyanthus. The polyanthus is starting to grow.

Yes. Rubber soled shoe. I took it off when I got to the house. Blood all over the place.

Glad your tetanus shot is up to date. I was just now due for one anyway.

Today I went to the store for groceries. Spring blooming bulbs were on sale. They looked healthy, so I bought daffodils, tulips, and crocuses. Now they need to be planted. I'll be glad, when Spring arrives.

 

Spring is a fabulous time of the year.. ye his yea it’s time fo a winter break. I’m busy planting amaryllis.

Cut out some more brambles that's growing up the Holly trees and my other seeds arrived, no pics on the packets.

 

Those sound like some great varieties! I really enjoy the plants I grow from Baker Creek seeds. I didn't order from them this year - first time in a decade. Not because I don't like them. I do. But a lot of my heirloom types are seeds I save myself, and I wanted to try some varieties from a more Northern lattitude.

The first chore today, was pull out nails sticking out of an old board. I wonder why that became a sudden priority

i also shelled the rest of the dried bush green bean pods. Some are stained from discoloration when the pods were moldy, but they look OK. Those should get a germination test in Spring. I'll let the seeds dry a bit longer.

I planted two bags of daffodil bulbs. About 1/5 of them were dried out and crunchy. The others looked good. Probably sat in store a couple of months. I hope some of the others grow.

I moved some perennials and herbs to more suitable locations - thyme, oregano, ratibida. All that remains to move are another clump of oregano and some echinacea. All were grown from seeds this year.

I cleared the last of the slicing tomato plants. More cleanup is needed there.

I pulled wild blackberry vines out of the meditation garden. How did they wind up there? I didn't plant them

 

Daniel I use my tractor bucket to push the wild blackberries back and down then spray . It keeps them in check for a couple years. There’s another area that all I can do it use my elec edger and wack them down and back that lasts til next season bc Can’t use spray . It’s always saved for the horses who end up with purple noses a from Aug to sept.
