Just a couple of hours today. Took the dead looking hebes out of their pots and replanted them in the long narrow bed under the wisteria. I'm not hopeful of four, a couple of others may survive. The lavender I bought last year doesn't look is if it survived the frost.

Checked on the new troughs, they've gone a bit dull looking as expected. The first coat always gets partly absorbed by the wood. These smaller troughs will only take two pots each of a decent size. I won't put in three smaller ones.
I'll leave it until Saturday before giving them a light sand and a second coat. I filled in the gaps between the mitres on the top with wood filler before painting them.
I washed out all the spare plastic pots. Then had a general clear up of bits of next door's trees and leaves etc.,

Yes, it was so long ago i think that they grew well and fruited. Sometimes i haven't got enough room in the freezer for my white currants,so i just leave them on the bushes. The next year I've got lots of tiny plants coming up around the bush.
I find it difficult to grow blueberries like that.

OMG spent half the day looking for all the bird feeders, cleaning them, hooking them up securely and filling them .
Used the big battery op blower then clean up driveway, patios etc. tested out the walk ways in the garden , many concrete step stones are swaying back and forth leveled them out and just nick picking thing that are dry and cutting back evergreen shrubs and other perennials that have seen better days as well as moved a hydrangea before it ‘woke.’ -no pun intended…

48E00571-B72C-44D6-8690-68BF13C94B48.jpeg Same old winter clean up stuff. Boring boring and more boring …:smt043
I did manage to also take my oven door off and clean between the glass . What a humongus pain that is… next time I’m calling a repair guy..
Next cleaning a 5’5’ single glazed window . The condensation between the glass is really buggin my view…all cloudy.
I’m ok with calling the window cleaners. Or try the magnetic approach..

    Finished painting the new troughs.

They are drying out in the garage.

They've had two coats, inside, outside and underneath. A bit, "belt & braces," but it's best to be safe.
They'll be positioned here, either side of the steps.

But the overhanging roof will mean that rain will drip off the edge of the roof into the troughs. So they'll often be wet, as were the old ones, but they weren't made as well.

That was it for the day. No big jobs planned until March, when I'll jet-wash the main patio and the paths and do any re-pointing where necessary. That's always a pain, as to try to match the colour of the York stone, I need cement, silver sand, yellow powder cement dye and plasticiser.

Not a good day for me. Breakdown truck arrived to take my car away for scrap. It started first time, as always. The guy drove it forward and the reversed, then onto the truck. Atop of the truck, it looked so tiny and helpless. What is it with us humans that we form such bonds with fellow humans, pets and now cars. I now have to rely on Amanda to transport me about. Would it make any difference to some drivers who cause such accidents due to their neglect that they also take away a person's freedom.

MIKE ALLEN I totally hear exactly what your grieving is all about. I had to add a dash cam every time out so many close calls I felt like I needed evidence and support . These cams record everything including my speed and driving habits.

Last year I donated a corvette I had since new to a charity due to constant perfidious aggression of others on the roads. Which took the fun outta driving a sports car. It was not easy and was in excellent top show condition . It went for a good cause for the homeless in my city.

That was very kind Pac.

Today I planted a flat of pansies, some pasque flowers and some oriental poppies. Times have been too busy up until now. Hopefully I can do some more tomrrow. The Haskap cutting has it's first baby leaves :) Pretty excited about that.

Today we burned a lot of brush. I have a hate / hate relationship with burning yard waste. My neighbors it so often, it degrades the experience of country life. Some of that may be a cover for hemp waste, I don't know. OK, curmudgeon (me ) stuff aside, there was so much to deal with this time, so we had a fire and burnt several truckloads. There are a fee more to go. Now, after a long soak to rid myself of smoke residue, it's time for some easy pasta.

On other topics, the latest pepper seedlings are not up yet. It's probably too soon, will keep on taking care of them.
