Following @Sjoerd's wise example, I bought a protective fabric.

This is on the snow peas. This bed has not had a problem so far with herbivores but I want them to be safe.

I also decided to add the fabric to this container. Despite my fencing approach, half of the snap peas have been pulled up and eaten already. Jays? Rodents? I don't know. They seem to pull up the plant and eat the pea, then follow by eating the injured plant after a day or two.

    Snowing now.

The rose grafts look pretty good so far. This is the whip-and-tongue graft. The plastic will remain in place until the shoots are about six inches long. They should grow quickly, because the understock has a vigorous, two year old root system.

The bud graft is also growing but I couldn't get a good photo of it.

This is the "tropical thunder" climbing rose, yesterday, that I planted last year. It still needs a trellis. I'm thinking about using some of the bamboo for that.

The garlic is growing very nicely. No care needed at the moment.

Lots happening now that Spring is underway.

Great seeing you have some protective netting in place.
I wish you could think of a clever way to make it more secure around the edges. I worry that the gauze is too loose. I do not trust those stones to do the job. If you had; for instance , long planks on top of the edges and more stones on top of that.
I am banging on about this because my voles will enter if there is the slightest gap, the slightest loose wobble in the material. Mate, they have no decency.

I am so sorry for your plant loss. It does sound more like a rodent to us. My Bride just oh-no’d and uttered an expletive when she read of your misfortune.

The rest of your posting today looks hopeful. What a good gardener you are.

No gardening today, it was cold, wet and windy....I played golf in it instead!

The David Austin roses I'd ordered arrived whilst I was out.

I'll transfer them to the glazed pots tomorrow.

These are they, the ones they are replacing, in their new plastic pots.
There's some growth on them. I've given them some fresh compost mix and some rooting pellets. I'll leave them on this patio where they will get a lot of sun, to see how they do.

Daniel your rose grafts are looking good and everything else.

Nothing today in the garden, it's been raining again and very windy. But i caught up with the ironing and vacuuming.

My puppy has never seen me run the tiller. She watched intently as I had it by the collar and kept it from running off.

Thanks Sjoerd. I do have "thoughts" about what to do, involving 2x4s in the shed. I wanted to get the fabric down while I could, between rains. We'll see what develops.

I just hope that the mystery guests leave your plants alone.
I don’t mean to sound critical…just trying to think with you.

Too wet even for golf today. It's been raining for 24 hours. So no gardening. I'm just letting it "get on with things."
The acers' foliage is filling out, there will be a bit of shaping to be done, once they are in full leaf.

    The lawn's beginning to recover.

The new roses have been potted up and have taken their place with the other ten on this patio.

David Austin roses are my favorite. I enjoy others too, but always have some English roses in the garden.

Daniel W, I totally agree about Austin roses! We have several--Tamara, Bibi Mazoon, Dark Lady, and Lady Hillingdon. They are fragrant, hardy, and give such pleasure.

Well....I didn't think to look up the blooming of the Echinacea hahaha. I'm looking at them sideways now, as they take up so much space and may not overwinter. The Echinacea and I have had a few conversations that they need to show up to the party this summer or they miss the whole show. Here's hoping. :)
