What have you done today in the Garden?

Yes Loggie, I notice that a number of weeds ar going to seed here as well.

 

Climbing roses blooming with clematis growing thru them on arch . Small shrubs trimmed , rhody’s and azalias deadheaded. Cematis climbing the variegated dwarf holly tree, and stinky hellebores trimmed. Hydrangeas blooming and removed all the cotton picken wild blackberries from all the flower beds thanks to the birds. UGH ! The yellow orange flowers lower right are alstroemerias coming thru the hebe small shrub with white flowers.

 

It is a picture of beauty, Pac. You have been sort of busy, haven’t you. It all looks so perfect.

Also cleared out a path in the back garden… took 4 days to peal ivy off the trees. And remove the ivy for a path. Did I mention I hate ivy? I can’t spray it because it’s right next to the 2200 gal water holding tank. I set a few chairs on top of the cement tank to sit on and watch the bats at dusk. Amazing to watch…

Still need to remove the moss from the cement . There is a great product safe for use near plants , kids, animals , water….once all the green crud is removed and scraped off using a scraping tool . Then just spray the whole mossy area and then leave it . In a coupe of weeks it’s gone .. and walllah…it’s as good as new…

Sjoerd it was a mess , thanks. It’s hard to get rid of.

 

I was going to strip some of the two foot long, dying and dead blooms from this wisteria.





I was using a step stool so I wasn't constantly looking up to do it. I got a couple of feet into it from the far end, when I heard a flutter and a blackbird flew away from a nest she'd built in the branches, close to the left-hand main beam. I noticed there were eggs in the nest.
So I called it a day and went indoors. I came back half an hour later and she was back on the nest. The eggs will have come to no harm as it's a warm day.

I went about several other jobs I do in the garden any afternoon and as usual, passing backwards and forwards under the pergola, but she wasn't bothered. It will be one of, one of the three pairs of blackbirds that visit our garden. They "hang about" waiting for me to put food in the feeders each afternoon.
But there will be no more pruning of this wisteria until the eggs have hatched and the chicks flown.

So I'm watching the women's semi-finals from Roland Garros.

 

Only had chance to do a lot of watering late this afternoon, evening.

 

Planted out another 5 grocery bags of miniature Iris. Hopefully I dug and bagged the same color/variety in each bag. Will know next spring. Also laid six more bed edging pieces in the back sitting area to delineate the beds better.

 

Jewell sounds like a really nice flower bed of iris to greet you next spring, The iris borer is a huge problem here and mice . I have to dig all the iris up over winter.

 

@Pacnorwest the Iris bloom after replanting? You are truly dedicated to your plants. I am working on getting my reliable flowering weeds established at this house. Things like lambs ears, California poppies, the big local lupine, pink flowering deadnettle and a few others. Seeing what has survived on this windy, gravel bed shows me the direction I should go…but I am pushing the boundaries of what some other plants prefer. Am also at a stage where I want small and easily cared for and rabbit proof if planted on the street. Rabbits do more than admire blooms and perennials.

 

Jewell Rabbits are a pain . Thank goodness for the cats they seem to keep them at bay around here.
Adore all the plants you mentioned in the gravel area. It’s much easier to let the garden tell you what to grow than the other way around.
Also I have found that by spraying the weeds around the perimeter helps to keep the rabbits and deer at bay. I use a 16 gallon sprayer hooked to a small battery mounted in the rider mower wagon to spray the noxious weeds. We had a lot of wild blackberry , poison oak, sumacs, tansy and wild carrots known as hemlock. These seeds are ridding in the wind currents and settle in areas and also the wild blackberries brought in by birds, especially the blackberry’s that have infiltrated every area of the garden.

 

Just did a bit of watering.
