What have you done today in the Garden?

Sjoerd .. I spent the day off with my family… nice weather and barbecue.

 

Oh Pac— that sounds very nice.

 

Well every day around the garden from now on is going to be a fight with the d arn gophers. It’s exhausting…

 

Do you combat them, Pac?

 

At the moment just watering and picking fruit, did have a bit of rain though.

 

Not out yet but so behind have plans to trim and clean up and today. Can’t do to much with out my garden tractor. Waiting for the new one to come sometime this week. Without it I cannot do to much heavy work but catching up on all those lil details that drive me a bit crazy today. And the gophers have completely taken over. The cats better get to work, and all the traps need to all be reset…yikes…

 

Went to the dentist this morning, not good news. Had a general check-up and X-Ray. She discovered a tooth with a decaying root, not able to save it. So had an extraction, first in fifty years.

This resulted in a bigger extraction...... from my bank account. £287.



The switch for my old mower has arrived. I'll dismantle the mower tomorrow to give the inside a good clean then replace the switch. The shed will need reorganising to accommodate both mowers.



Dentist advised, no work today, so no gardening, I've got my feet up watching the TV, switching between, cricket, golf and tennis (on 2 channels).

No that's a private dentist. In this area you can't find a dentist who will take on more patients. We went private when the NHS dentist in the village closed.

 

Oh right, we went private when our dentist sold his practice and started private and i wasn't happy with the NHS dentist how he treated me.We have a dental plan but ours don't cover extraction, just the check ups and hygienist twice a year. I had to have a tooth out and it costs me £85. that was last year.
Hope that it heals well.

 

Not feeling good about all the doctors and nurses leaving their profession because the big corporations taking over major hospitals, changing all the rules of treatments. they are not allowing treatment for patient’s that need it due to cost . Health insurance take overs involved with these corporations are not allowing doctors to properly treat their patients.]. We see it on the news all the time. Patients left in hallways for days because not enough nurses to care for these patients.

Yesterday and today cleaned up so much debris from winter storms…and from other area around the perimeter of the property. All hauled to the burn pile.. although I don’t burn, I leave it to become it’s own lil sanctuary . It’s amazing all the trimmings from trees and shrubs pop up and flower and the pile has now established itself as another section of wannabe plants that are doomed for summers heat of destruction with zero water available to them and some still thrive.

 

Friday is a golf day, but I gave it a miss as it was going to rain. So too wet for "proper" gardening. I've more wisteria growth to prune.
So I spent some time sorting out the shed and the garage. Now I have two mowers, the bigger one for the larger back garden and the lighter one for the small front garden, I'm running out of room.

I built this shed 47 years ago, it's still water and mouse proof.

The tubs are for hedgehog, bird and squirrel food. There's still a bit of a bench on which to work.
Two mowers and a wet n'dry vac under it.





These A4 cabinets I "recycled" from my office when I retired are handy for tools.






Stuff has to be hung from the roof.





More working space, compost box, incinerator and jet-wash on the floor. Also my darts cabinet which can be hung on the shed door.








No spare room in the garage either. That wooden stand at the end is handy. I made it for if we need to take the oven out of its housing unit or the tumble dryer out of the cupboard under the stairs, I can slide them out onto it and pull it away on its castors. The big tub on its dolly is handy if there's anything big I need to move that's too large for the sack truck. But it's used mostly to house surplus pots.





My bench has an old sideboard under it for all sorts of stuff and power tools.
The floor needed a good clean as there was a lot of grass that came out of the mower I repaired.





The little room with the freezers, garden furniture and other "stuff" stays reasonably tidy.

 

Nothing today it's been raining all day.

 

Planted three ground cover roses in a spot the gophers tear up regularly. I’ve noticed over the years that gophers or moles don’t dig near roses. A mystifying occurance. So hoping the new roses are safe. Three more roses to go…
Trimmed the wisteria again… it’s beginning to be self defense tis time of year they grow several feet in a week alone..

 

Pacnorwest, do the roses have thorns? It's a great idea.
