What have you done today in the Garden?

Logan, I don't get the full size option on my tablet. But the tablet lets me post pictures, my phone won't. So I'm fine with what I can do.

I checked the beans I have quite a few anasazi beans but they won't be ready to dry for a few more weeks. I have two different red raspberries. The first ones have tapered off, but the fall ones are loaded. Last year I'd come home from work everyday and pick about a quart bag and freeze them. I'm hoping it will be the same this year. I think I may make raspberry/rhubarb preserves today. If I froze enough rhubarb I'll make ginger/rhubarb as well.

My granddaughter went into my controls and did something so I can now post full size pictures with my writing.

Lucky for me I have a tech savvy 13 year old living with me. I have no idea what she did or why it wouldn't automatically come up with the option.

 

Good seeing your berries ‘n blooms. Lucky for us that you got your tablet sorted.

 

Didn't do much today. Sometimes a day off is good. I did water the patio plants, which are in containers.

 

Daniel, Are those dahlias, in the first picture? My grandma had a lot of different kinds of those. They're very pretty! I like cosmos.... and 4 o'clocks. I don't know why I like 4 o'clocks. Love your dog, too. I used to have a chocolate lab. His name was Sabaka (Russian for dog). He was the sweetest dog. When I delivered mail (in the small town we lived in) he'd run from our house and be waiting at the door to the post office when I got there. Then when I had the LLV loaded, he knew I couldn't let him in until I was out of site. So he'd run to the end of the road and when I stopped at the stop sign he'd jump in. Then he'd ride with me until we got back to our house, where I had to bribe him out and into the house, so he wouldn't follow me. But the people on my route loved him and talked to him and gave him treats. Or sometimes he'd just plop down in the back and go to sleep. But no way was he spoiled....

 

That's great @Willowisp0801 it's nice to have these youngsters around, hubby does things for me, he's into that.

Hi @Willowisp0801! Yes, they were from a package of dried out tubers at the big box store. I was surprised they grew. Dahlias here are often eaten by underground animals, so I tried growing them in a container. The main challenge is if in the sun, they dry out too fast. So I have to watch that.


Like your grandma, my granddad grew dahlias too. They were so dramatic.

Those are such nice flowers, Daniel. It is a rich selection of different types. The Alstroemerias were a happy bunch. Sometimes I forget that you are also good at growing flowers as well.

Daniel They bring back memories. My grandparents had huge gardens. The dahlias were at the front of the carrots and lettuce, which was in front of fruit trees. There must have been other things, but I remember the carrots especially well, because my brother and I would go pull them up and eat them whenever we wanted a snack. We never washed them, just brushed the dirt off and went back to playing while we ate them. Are you in the Southwest; or Washington State? I grew up in Western Washington (PNW) which is where my grandma grew those. My grandpa would dig them up for the winter. If I went to the wash house (in the winter) with my grandma I remember those and his potatoes and dried corn all that stuff he saved for the next season was next to the toybox.
