    Nothing outside today.

I got out the stone mortar and pestle. Crushed chicken dried chicken leg and thigh bones to make bone meal, and dried eggshells to make eggshell meal. I'll use those later during planting season.

Looked on line at more English roses. Some are very nice.

Here in the UK, there are meat processors that sell bonemeal, well they did when I was working. I remember it being very cheap.

    I imagine it was.

I don't mind doing it myself. It doesn't take long, and I like doing things with my hands. Somehow it also seems wasteful for me throw away bones, then buy ground up bones, when it.

The amaryllis flowers wilted, so I cut the stems.

Meanwhile, this salmon tone Schlumbergera started blooming, after most of the others finished.

I think it was last year that started the cuttings. The old plant was too big, so I started it over again with cuttings. It's a young plant, so only a few flowers.

Nothing today, woke up to snow. First snow of the winter season! We had more on Halloween! I am watching a lot of Migardener on YouTube. 17045763672787853425210424391941.jpg

I got a free wading pool from Ace hardware! They had a dented one and I needed to get rock salt, in case it freezes. The manager was there and I asked if he would sell it at a discounted price. He told me I could just take it!. So I will cover it with burlap coffee bags, drill wholes in it, and it will be my garlic and onion bed. I'll put it at the far right hand corner, outside the fence. I thought it was smaller than it is. But it's the largest size. And it's the safe number that has nothing to leach into the dirt.

@Willowisp0801, I made a flower bed once from an old kiddie pool that had been my oDGD's pool. It lasted a few years then started breaking up. I finally got the pieces out of the ground last fall. I do not know how long a new one will last, but they do crack and split and eventually go to pieces. It is nice you got it for free though.

I put my onions and garlic almost anywhere except with the beans. They will grow in containers too.

It was sunny and mild today, so I worked outdoors. I got some more totes that were freebies (freebies are nice when you get them) and made drainage in 2 of them. The third one already had a crack. Then I hauled more wood chips and filled them up with wood chips and kitchen scraps and whatever. I want to plant herbs in them in the spring. I did plant some of my extra peppermint in two other tubs, and trimmed my oregano and black eyed susans. The oregano is already growing back, so is the peppermint. I got a few spare plants transplanted from pots to the ground. Dame's rockets need a lot of room, so maybe it will like the new spot okay. And I cleaned up after my dogs. I have been walking them in different areas in the day time so as not to scare the birds away from the feeders. I made some 'suet' for them, and have that out on that jungle gym thing I have out front. The winter birds I have seen are the pileated woodpeckers (I have other kinds but they may be south for the winter?), black capped chickadees, juncos, cardinals, blue jays, house wrens, and Bewick's wrens, and probably some others I have not gotten a good look at lately.

We have more rain and snow moving in this week, so I thought I better work outside while I can.

I had some marigold and epizote seed heads sitting in bowls. I cleaned them and transferred the seeds to envelopes.

@Daniel_W , here in southern Missouri, marigolds will regrow from seed if left out over winter. I can plant them fall, winter or spring and they grow well. I don't know if they will do that up your way or not. Zinnias, cosmos, are also self seeding annuals. I can plant perennials over fall and winter also.

I am trying to decide what seeds to start early. I have my front room and sunny windows back (kids moved next door in the fall), so I could start some seeds early this year. Possibly some cabbages or beets maybe? They won't mind going outdoors in March or April.

The cold rainy, snowy and sleety mix arrived this morning, so I am working indoors. It is supposed to get down to about 6F by the weekend.
