Today I planted some daylilies into containers.

    IMG_5818.jpeg

They look pretty sad. I bought them a month or so ago but was not up to planting things. I think they will grow anyway. Last fall I had some that I dug out to make way for a new sidewalk. They sat dry, in the sun and heat, for a month before I planted them. They are growing fine now.

I just tried to point the roots down and bend the tops up but didn't stress over it.

    IMG_5819.jpeg

They are in a very shady spot for now, until they start to recover. Sun would burn those super-pale sprouts otherwise.

I'm soaking some Four O'Clock seeds to plant tomorrow.

These Leucojum are descended from a couple of divisions that originated from my old house. So they are heirlooms. I found they were easiest to divide and replant after blooming but before the leaves died down. They are under my fig trees but those wont leaf out for another two months, so the Leucojum are effectively in full sun when it matters.

This is the Hybrid Echinacea, one that I grew from seeds last year. I overwintered it dry, in the chilly garage. This photo is after a few weeks of watering and sun outside again.

Some white Muscari, trilliun, and Silver Bells" that I'm trying out for container method. They were from the mail order catalog, "Old House Gardens". They only carry really old heirloom varieties, By growing them, I like to think I'm giving my place a kind of "history". Silver Bells is "Ornithogalum nutans" or "Drooping Star of Bethleham". .i don't know how well they will grow here.

Lookin good. My lilies are coming up …. Lots of tiny leafs . Daylilies poppin and of course the roses with new buds. I lost a couple roses due to the gophers… I may be able to save them they still have some roots left. And yikes the weeds are a nightmare . I put down some cardboard over areas that are already outta control and a couple of tarps.

There's another way as well, tap on the person's name that you want to send a PM to, it will go to that person's profile and tap on the conversation word.

No gardening, I knew it was going to rain, so I got done what I needed to do yesterday.
It would have been a golf day, but I baled out.
The worst part of playing golf when the course is very wet, is the mud that gets on my over trousers.
To get them clean I have to put them in a bucket of hot water in the garage and wash them in there, as understandably, my wife doesn't want them in the washing machine.

It is cloudy, drippy and chilly today, so I think I will start on my next quilt and do some housework.

Daniël, you are doing interesting things again. I like Trilliums. What colour will yours be?

Today it was time to plant our some of the tuinbonen, so we rolled back some of the bed mulching and raked the portion of the bed that we would use. In they went and it was on to the next job. It was, after all a sunny day, albeit cool.
I always remove the seed halves (cotyledons) so the mice will not be attracted.

The next job was grass path edging. We did two paths today, I will see about more when I see how how the muscles are tomorrow.
    IMG_3524.jpeg

You can see the full bed portion that has been raked and then tamped-down by treading on planting planks. The reason for this is so that when I make planting holes with a bulb-planter the sides will not cave-in prematurely.
    IMG_3522.jpeg

You can see far to the back the edging blade’s slice on the right side of the path. After a pauze, I removed that as well.
    IMG_3523.jpeg

That was the finished job. All the way at the back you can just see the newly planted little broad beans.

What a day it was, I am so incredibly stiff tonight.

Sjoerd, what a beautiful, tidy garden. Seeing it brings joy to my heart!

Today I planted most of the tomato seed varieties. Half are dwarf open pollinated types. I have home - saved seeds for most, but bought a few packets to refresh them genetically. For some, I planted old and new seeds together in case some don't grow.

    IMG_5843.jpeg

I have spaces for 11 fresh eating dwarf, and 11 bushy determinate paste tomatoes. Despite my romance for home saved heirlooms, I'll do half of the paste tomatoes as modern hybrids. In my garden, they are more productive and easier to process for sauce. The old Romas still have better flavor.

There are big slicers there in Red, "Chocolate", dark "tie dye", and I want to add yellow. Reisentraube is almost too big to be a cherry but is so good and productive.

There are a few more to plant. Tomorrow. Plus some for my nice neighbor.

They are on warming mat now.

    IMG_5840.jpeg

The small six packs on the right are Portulaca. I delayed those and the other packet, in my trowser pocket, went through the washer and dryer. I look locally, so far none in store.

The four o'clocks are also planted, and on a warmer mat.

    IMG_5842.jpeg

There were extra Four O'Clock seeds. I wrapped those in a moist paper towel, wrapped that in a sheet of plastic, and placed that on a mat as well. Experiment.

We had heavy rain today, so far more than 3" of rain and it is still raining. I am working on my next quilt.

White, if they grow. I've never tried them before.

They might go into my privacy border. It has shade and "forest-y" soil from many years of leaf mulch. I don't know if deer and rabbits will eat them.

I actually thought they were kind of cool looking, but I like bumblebees. I think they look cool as well. It kind of weirded me out when they'd hover in front of me. My grandpa used to say, (about bees) "if you don't bother them; they won't bother you". Kind of hard when they're staring you down.

I did nothing. My car now has new tires and an oil change, though.
