@Oreti , what are "VB seedlings", I did not recognize that plant.

that is a LOT of work keeping that path weeded.

    @AAnightowl ...sorry.....it's Vebena Bonariensis

    upload_2024-6-26_7-34-2.png

I sowed it once about 6years go and it springs up everywhere.....which I don't mind in general as it's great for attracting pollinators/ butterflies. Just not in our pathways!!

@Oreti , those are very pretty flowers.

My Dame's rockets do the same, but they are so pretty and attract many butterflies and pollinators as well. They are similar to phlox, but a different plant. If they come up in a bad spot, I pull them out when they go to seed and plop them someplace else where I would like them to grow. This is from another season, and this area also needs cleaned out again. They have a pleasant fragrance also.

I will try a few pictures this morning. We had thunderstorms this morning and heavy rain, maybe 2" in a few minutes? I got soaked to the skin, and a free shower while doing my chores. I will work indoors at least part of the day.

One photo uploaded 2 copies of the same... Hope it doesnt do that again. 2 yr old parsley.jpg
2 year old parsley going to seed.

    2 yr old parsley.jpg 4 rows of corn.jpg
4 rows of corn, with a few cucumbers. not all the cucumbers sprouted.

    asparagus 2.jpg

    my new asparagus bed.

    asparagus 1.jpg

The old asparagus, but hard to see. I need to clean out behind it, and to the left. Actually, I did clean out on the left last fall, but it is overgrown already. There are potatoes in this bed, but not all are in the picture.

    baby leeks.jpg

some of the baby leeks... They are shaded a lot here, and are next to the parsley.

    black raspberries, wild patch.jpg

my wild black raspberry patch. I found them growing wild on my property and moved them to my garden some years ago.

    blueberries, raspberries, n chives.jpg

some of my tame blueberries and raspberries and some peppermint, an Egyptian walking onion (I have those all over the place), and some chives... no blueberry fruits this year. :( I need to get them something more. I eat the berries before they get to the house for freezing or canning.. the leeks are to the left of my berry alley...

birdhouse gourds on queen of sweden rose.jpg

in another area, my birdhouse gourds growing on my dead Queen of Sweden rose bush (David Austin rose). Only 2 of three seeds sprouted, so I hope they make lots of gourds and I will save my own seeds.

I will post more pictures in another post here later. I need to work in my garden!

Raining and coastal misting. There has been no new gopher/mole or deer activity for a few weeks. No mowing today due to zero activity and growth has begun to slow down.
Once the summer begins usually the pasture growth stops. As the season progresses to hot sunlight , no water and heat will cause growth patterns in the grass to go dormant. Then mowing stops.

Trimmed some unruly hedges in the back yard watered planters . Today my kids and families will come for a barbecue for my BD from 2 different states. Setting up accommodations for family visit.
So happy to see them. :):smt026:smt041

Trimmed shrubs to have a better view of the roses .

@AAnightowl ...wow you have a lot going on there!!

:smt044 I'm with you on the Blueberries, I do exactly the same ...eat as I garden!!! They very rarely make it indoors. I'm much better behaved with the Strawberries Blackberries , Pears, Apples but need to improve with the Plums as I do tend to feast on them a bit too.:chuckle:.
Can't beat fresh fruit straight off the tree can you.

@Pacnorwest , I'm so pleased to hear that your wildlife with their destructive behaviour have decreased some what and that the growth rate of your grass areas has slowed too. You must surely welcome this and the consuming time it frees up for you.

How exciting to have the family down to share in your celebrations . Sending you Birthday wishes and hugs from across the ocean.:smt113 Have a fantastic time.
It's my hubby 's and my birthday in the next couple of weeks and like you we will have all our brood down too, some for a long weekend and one will stay on for a bit longer. We can't wait to see them:smt026:smt026, it's hard work coping with a full house again as you get use to the quieter pace once they all fly the nest...... but worth it, we wouldn't want it any other way. :D

Your shrubs look great, ours are shamefully in need of a haircut. They look as if they've all seen a ghost..or something equally scary and it's made all their stems stand on end !! upload_2024-6-26_20-41-36.png

Today was the last of the weeding for the broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower, as well as the corn. Everything was fertilized.

I took 45 cuttings from three different varieties of haskaps and planted block of seedlings with root start. I hope to fill in the parts of the asparagus garden that no longer have asparagus. They cross pollinate so hopefully all cuttings take.

Then it was time to cover anything sensitive with floating row cover to protect from the incoming hail. cabbages, lettuce, and squash were tucked in cozy so they didn't get bashed about.

Oreti… Thank you . Appreciate the family visiting for short periods, and it’s to short they have buzy lives.

And yes this time is a good rest from mowing since the season has slowed down the pasture growth it will be a nice break. I hope the mounds eventually level out . The mower blades on both tractors are toast from mowing mounds level each mowing session. It’s been so worth the daily hassle. No huge mounds or holes every foot in the whole pastures now for weeks. No deer eating any flower buds , or sleeping in my flower beds. Wiping out the food source for wildlife has been the best control system I have tried so far.

Now with your up coming BD celebrations it’s an anxious wait and lots of activity . Everyone goes in different directions at once. I started cooking up meals days ago. We don’t have meal delivery and no restaurants nearby.

Take care of those pesky joints you deserve a rest.
