Teabags bags can be used to rid pests , fungus and much more natural way to use in gardens. I’m not much of a tea teetotaller , this would be a good reason to start.
    The artoftea on line.

Found this about using coffee grounds to deter pests. Coffee grounds are an efficient way to keep pests out of your garden. Not only is this option more environmentally friendly than the average pest repellant on the market, but it is also easier to source and even easier on the wallet.

Figures this would work I just switched from huge coffee machine to the ninja using coffee pods.

@Oreti I have the same dreaded task raking up hazelnuts. UGG!…..It’s one of those necessary evils —-like housework. Double UGG !

I read that coffee grounds and tea bags work just as well as brand store bought concoctions to deter critters. So I’m going the pop some coffee grounds in the newest Rabbit invasion opening under the barn. See how well that works.

Thanks @Sjoerd . Never a dull moment around here, especially prep time with numerable different critters packing up for winter . The good news still no deer to run off. But I did run off those nasty critters called tree trimmers again this morning. They have trespassed on my property in the past assaulted my tree rare small tree collection and topped some and the sides of trees now look unnatural as if a monster took a big bite outta the sides. Now they are growing unmistakably abnormal. :smt013:smt076

@Oreti you very welcome…. For the links.

I spent the morning making coffee grounds . Used the coffee for iced coffee and put in the frig. Then off to the new home of a huge rabbit as big as a toy poodle. I put coffee grounds in the entry and exit holes under the barn then more coffee grounds mixed with horticulture vinegar in another rabbit hole under the wood pile.

I hate going near the wood piles this time of year spiders seem to favor that area to nest . Where I have found brown recluse and black widows in the past. The pastures are full of wolf and funnel spider webs this morning and a few Alberta trees were covered in spider mite webs near my She Shed. So I washed them off

Made a few traps for the squirrels . Filled 5 gal buckets with water then added wood as a ladder to get them inside the bucket spiked with peanut butter, and nut and popped a few floating in the water smeared peanut butter on the insides of the bucket above the water line. It sounds so medieval . Yikes. But if you have seen all the tunnels and holes around the foundation of the house , trees and shrubs what else is left to do. I feel terrible. They are very destructive. ( I secretly hope it doesn’t work.) but I don’t want to see it fail either. What a conundrum.

The birds have discovered it. Wait and see if the squirrels do tonite.

Tunnels and holes all around my 50 year old weeping cherry tree.

Well the coffee grounds didn’t work on the huge rabbit settling in under the barn. He / she just kicked all the grounds out. So I went back and spread a commercial product that has helped , called Plantskyyd.

The squirrel bucket traps and bait didn’t last long the birds ate all the bait on the step up to the bucket and around the bucket . Put more bait out over night and put Plantskyyd down around the 5o year old weeping cherry tree. cherry tree.

This is my 25 year old Italian Cyprus the squirrels have killed. It’s very upsetting. it can’t be replaced. IMG_3542.jpeg

I basically did nothing in the garden. Well, I did water. Hot spell coming, so more watering early tomorrow.

I went out early and checked all the ground squirrel tunnels and no new disturbances . :fingerscrossed: Plantskyyd did work hopefully long term. Even at the huge Rabbit hole , I’ve named Harvey’s Place.

I read that ground squirrels spend 8 months totally underground so I can just imagine the underground city I’m now sitting on. Gophers never come out unless I force them out . Occasionally I find a good tunnel to flood with water they pop up soaked and gasping for air and a handy shovel then takes care of that .Mmm.

Would you believe I found a gopher/ground squirrel product called Gopher Goo. It comes dried and after mixed with water it turns into a jello like consistency all natural . Taunted to block tunnels. Well all they will do is just dig around it. There is more than one or two .. they have lots of back up buddies to continue the excavation process before winter .

Hey 30 years fighting ground critters sometimes ya win sometimes ya loose.

Right now I’m counting on the hawks to take care of the mice snd voles out in the pastures. They still follow me around the pasture when mowing as the mower scares the mice and voles to jump up.
I hear them out screeching every day. They sound buzzy.

Alao another predator is still out besides the hawks . The bobcat is still hunting around the entire property. I found his footprints around gopher.mole holes he has been diggin at. He seems to be consistent honing his hunting skills even fewer quail around.

Exactly it’s a zoo around here. I can hardly wait till the ducks and geese fly south for the winter we are in their flight path. At least no one has been seriously hurt except my horse that was attacked by a bobcat nothing serious just huge scratches across his belly didn’t break the skin had the vet out to verify it was a bobcat. The wildlife service sent out a trapper that followed along the cats trail which is hundreds of miles really as he explained to me he may not be back for months. Never got him… but when riding my horses thru the canyon I have cone across dead rabbits laying beside the trails and a very skittish horse that wanted to flee the area. And we did. I trust my animals instincts. That was a few years ago.

Also just to add fire to the zoo population we are now enduring a monthly long very annoying invasion of those tiny thief ants that pop up in the kitchen. So invasions inside and outside. I just want to put one of those tents around the house that is used for fumigating termites …And call it a day.
