planted more flowers for the cut flower garden. Dahlias went in today. I started those from seed in Jan. They are flowering. planted up a few flowers in a flowerbed just for looks. nothing there I am going to harvest. Weeded the beets, drug plants back out of the greenhouse hopefully for good this time. watered, uncovered and then recovered the tomatoes in the high tunnels.. 41* tonight. Waited on a few customers (quiet day here) and a few other odds and ends.

Today I put my Black Zucchini, Spaghetti Squash, Three Varieties Of Cukes seedlings in the soil. Yesterday I put the Red & Golden Beet seedlings in along with putting the Cherry Belle Radish, Cosmic Purple Carrot & Bambino Carrot seeds in soil.

Oh thats my Orange Dream Acer Carolyn.
It almost got thrown away two seasons ago. I knew I had one but I thought it died year before last.
I put it out of sight and any bad weather to decide the following year if to recycle, still not knowing what it was. I have to say during the winter it looks a right bare sorry mess.
    But yes, its Orange Dream.

I think I have found the replacement to my front garden Acer in Orange Dream which would be impossible to dig up.
    K

Loads of different Acers/Maples out there. Some of my reds have got wind burn, not a pretty sight. View attachment 5532

I brought this Acer with me to this town in 2010. I bought it at a supermarket as a sapling.

    And now.

    Kate--your maples are just stunning.
Sometimes you can get good plants at the supermarket.
You got a really good one--and it is just the right size, I find.

    Love that orange maple.

I worked all day in other peoples garden, I cut eight lawns and am exhausted.

However, Mark and I took a stroll with the dog to the allotment after our supper this evening so I could water the plants in the greenhouse. The tomatoes in the GH already have two trusses of flowers each and the chilli plants have lots of flowers. No flowers yet on the sweet peppers or aubergines.

We had lots of rain yesterday so the weeds are growing like mad, looks like I will be tackling those at the weekend.

The weather was right, the time was right and the beetroot was right.
Time to thin-out the beetroot and transplant the ones removed in the space made ready for them. It was a back-breaking, knee-breaking and thigh-breaking job that took a half a day.

Right then, here they are...job done and all watered-in:
    wist6a.jpg
That was all the work done, but I have a few foto's of some of the bloomers in the garden at the moment.

Tomorrow, weather permitting I will have a look in the bees. Well, actually I MUST look in the hives.

You have a beautiful garden Sjoerd. Even your newly transplanted beets are beautiful!

I stopped in at my veggie plot on the way home from work to water newly sowed seeds. The new asparagus bed is sprouting. Of the 25 2-year-old crowns planted, I see 23 asparagus! Not bad, huh? There is still hope for the other 2.

Bok Choi is doing very well: we have had 2 dinners ob bok choi so far. Unfortunately slugs have discovered them. I spent 10 or more minutes de-slugging them. YUK! I then put diatomaceous earth in circles around them, so hopefully that will cure the problem.

Thanks so much, Cayuga. It is still raining today, so the timing for transplanting them was even better than I had hoped. They ought to go on and complete their growth cycle now. (knock on wood).

A big congrats on the asparagus doing so well ! Will you eat them all fresh, or freeze some in?

Congrats also on your Bak Choi. Mine is doing oké, but still a long way off from harvesting and eating.
I have noticed that the slugs like mine as well. I have put down some beer traps for them, but they seem to drifting right on past.

I held a slug rodeo day before yesterday and must have gathered 20 or more. Gadzooks!

Wow EJ--I am surprised to hear that, cos usually you guys are two weeks ahead of us.

Yesterday was a busy day in the garden. Lots of weeding, and I went into the bees for their 10-day check-up. They were all doing well.

In the Renson hive, I was able to cut out the drone broed. Usually there is only one chamber to cut out, this colony are builders! So then, I juts cut out all three.

The one strawb bed has almost finished blooming and so we threw a net over that. When the plants in the second bed have finished blooming, the net will be extended over that as well. We measured the beds and got out the correct net for the size of the two beds.
You can see the the net has been rolled up along the side. We will use more pvc tubes to make more supports and then extend the nets over that.
