Try putting a bird feederclose to a window where you can take the pics through the window. That's how I take most of mine.

Hi Connie Lee...you can pick up a tripod (I bought myself a Gitzo for Christmas) or a stick like tripod,(I think it is a monopod) I use both because cameras are heavier. It seems I am starting a collection of cameras and all but one are Canon...the first one was a kodak easyshare and my last one a canon rebel..I basically like them all and I bring each one out to take photos once in a while...if you can get to a Walmart, you can try the camera out and return it within a month if it isn't what you want...check with your stores return policy but I love that and QVC is the same way.

i love all the informative people that visit here..i still use a 35mm camera, but thanks to technology, get them developed to a cd then put them on my computer, would love to get a digital, and thanks to all the advise, it just might make it a bit easier to choose!

I have a Nikon D-40 and it takes the most amazing photos almost by itself. Very easy to use and not all that expensive. My husband is a professional photographer and he's always saying "I can't believe what great photos your camera takes!" LOL, he totally forgets that I'm the one taking the photos!

Mine is a Nikon Coolpix L100. It is several years old. With luck and a steady hand it takes clear photos, both as close ups and distance. I edit in Picassa. Plants are a lot easier than insects, birds and mammals to get a good photo. Patience is not one of my qualities. Those people who sit for hours in blinds to get a great critter photo are to be admired. I can't even sit in a nice warm house and wait next to the window for very long. Almost all my bird photos were taken through my dirty windows. ;)
