Jane, I can imagine that americans would like the cheese on the meatballs, as the “ cheese” that I used wasn’t really cheese at all— rather it is that cheese product that is very prevalent there. Usually used on hamburgers. We can buy that stuff and I have developed a taste for it on certain things. For most things though I use real cheese. I chose the cheese product because of its mild flavour in hopes that it would not clash with the secret ingredients the Bride mixes in with the ground beef. When we lived over there, I would ask the waitresses to flop a couple of slices of that cheese product on various ground beef dishes like hamburger steak, swiss steak, meatloaf. The Bride was shocked and said that they'd never do it...but they did. I had to pay extra of course, but they made no big deal out of it. When she lost the bet, she still maintained that they would think that I was a nut case. Cackle. Speaking of melted cheese...have you ever eaten a philly steak sandwich? Now there’s a combination of beef ‘n cheese...among other things. Thanks Cayu. I am happy that you liked the meal and dishes. They are very handy.
I had a chuck roast in the fridge that I put a prime rib roast rub on a couple of days ago. I browned it up in a dutch oven and tossed in golden yukon potatoes and onions and set it for a slow cook in the oven. Served it with salad to a tired DW when she came in for the day.
We all eat well here. We had chicken thighs first seared then cooked in a mirepoix (chopped carrots celery onions sauteed in oil) garlic, chicken broth, tomato paste, and white beans. Delicioso.
My day off so I made DW Baked Fennel Red Salmon with pan fried Brussels sprouts with balsamic vinegar. And she likes the brown basmati rice too so there it is.
That looks really good Dirt! Hope the wife likes it. Mart, we have nights like that too. Last night we had canned soup! Tonight I made braised chicken thighs with carrots, parsnips & spinach in a chicken broth flavored with thyme salt & lemon. Thickened with gf flour. Over brown rice. It was pretty good but I under salted it. I tend to do that unfortunately. We have enough for leftovers so i can correct the seasoning.
@Cayuga Morning I have come to really enjoy fennel. Its my celery replacement in some ways, flavor enhancer in others.
Tonight was baked half chicken with rosemary and garlic parmesan sauce ! Green peas cooked in milk for a side ! Or I should say creamed green peas !
Today is overcast with rain predicted for this afternoon and evening. I'm fixing chicken Cordon Bleu, steamed broccoli, and crescent rolls. It's a version of "comfort food." It also uses up some of the leftover ham!
Hit and miss tonight,, no one was hungry enough for a big meal ! Oyster stew for hubby,, ramen noodles for me ! Made a fresh apple cake that he snacked on this afternoon,, maybe thats why he wasn`t hungry ! Rainy and nasty here too MG !
