We have chilli con carne that my daughter made. A deer pot roast that was marinated in beer is also cooking, that will be for tomorrow.
Today we made chilli for days and days and days and days... We almost over-estimated: It was enough for a meal now and five more later on.
Ha, ha, ha...I know what you are saying, Mart. We have weird taste buds over here. It must be all that sambal.
Sjoerd, is your spoon holder Delft? And I love that pot you made your chili in--I need one of those! Now, to continue the great "Texas chili" controversy--I put beans, red beans, in our chili. That means I am automatically disqualified from entering, much less cooking, in any chili cookoff. I also make a pretty good turkey/black bean chili, which makes my name anathema around these parts!
I get such a kick out of how we all check out each other's cooking implements! BTW what are those leaves? And are the brown triangles chocolate?
Oh yes.. I just moved in for a close up. It IS chocolate isn't it? What do the Texans say about that? Is that heresy, or essential?
Chortle— Cayu, you are a scream. Yes, that is 99% dark chocolate. It is a little thing that I picked up in Mexico. Not that they use it in chilli, but rather it is the driving force in mole poblano. I developed such a taste for it over time. Using it in our chilli comes from that. I do not know of anyone else that does this. I am guessing that Mart will opt for a buggy whip...I am staying well away. The leaves are bay leaves. I am so out of order, Mart may never speak to me again. Jane, that turkey- black bean chilli has my interest. I like experimenting with food and I am wild about black beans in food. Hard to get here.
This was the birthday meal, then. Salmon, potato au gratin, red applesauce and broccoli ‘n cheese. Ice cream for pud.
Oh yes Sjoerd,, I will still talk to you ! How else do I tell you what you do wrong making Texas Red ! Actually some do add Mexican chocolate to chili,,just no beans black or otherwise ! They would run you out of the state for that !
Tonight was baked ham and asparagus spears and braised cabbage for sides ! Hubby liked asparagus and I wanted something else ! But I like both,,, if it grows,, I llike it !
Chuckle, yeah...you have a point there. How else will I know? BTW, my Bride was wondering how you eat texas red. Like as a side dish, or the main meal ? Do you eat other things with it? Baked ham with veggie sides sounds quite nice, Mart. I am getting hungry.
Whoa, getting run out of the state for putting beans in chili isn't possible for me! I have three cats, 11 hens, one adorable husband, and several people who depend on me to show up with meals on time. I'm here to stay! Last night we had mussels provencal with French bread and Vino Verde for the wine. I dearly love mussels! We can't get them often, but when we do, it's a happy dinner hour!
Texas red chili is main dish ! You add whatever you want to it ( except beans) ! Top a bowl with shredded cheese, diced onion and a dollop of sour cream for me ! Plenty of tabasco and served with cornbread, crackers, corn chips or whatever you choose ! ( I have however added a few beans to my bowl if I had pintos left over ) But don`t tell anyone ! I hate moving !
