Oh Barb I am so sorry that you are laid up like this, particularly THIS time of year! When will you be able to be up and about?

I am 5 weeks into it now and they don't think I will be released till the end of Sept. They well decide next week, if they will go back in and add another plate and more screws...If they do all my time will start over...

I am going to try to get into the greenhouse on Sunday with hubby. I have trays and trays of coleus and lots of other things for one of my garden club plant sale. They probably have flowered and become lanky and straggly. They need to be cut back. It may be too late by now to even save them for the sale. Our 60 tomato plants have never been staked and are on the ground in an ocean of weeds. My poor hubby has his hands full with getting his lunch and all my food ready for the day all before he goes to work and when he gets home he has to do all the birds and sometimes he has to cut the grass...He has a full plate these days.

And Bored Barb just sits and watches TV all day.....her favorite thing to do....

Barb, during both my pregnancies, I had to be on bed rest. The first time it was for 3 months, the second for 5. It was tough. Like yours my poor husband was doing everything. A friend brought by a gift of a plant. Except it had mealybugs. By the time we realized it, the bugs had spread to other plants. I lay there looking at plants I''d had for years &years watching them succumb. Unlike you I had the use of both hands, so I taught myself to knit & crochet. & yes TV became my best friend... I sincerely hope you get good news at your next MD visit & you can be up & about. I think of you as being such a doer!

I'm pretty happy right here too :) But, if I could go back to being about 15 years old, sitting at the dinner table feeding my dad fried chicken I'd never grow up!

Strat, the 'gubmint' took over that place and most of it is now under water. Has been for 35 years now. I grew up on that farm. I was down there just last week. The missus is finally beginning to understand my feeling for the land down there. My family has been in that part of Kentucky since1833. That is indeed home.

@fatbaldguy - From the photo I'd say your home just exudes stories and history. What was it like living and growing up there?

I L, that house was actually a log cabin built by my G-grandfather circa 1845. A second cabin was built onto the original about 10 years later. As time passed, a second story, a lean-to kitchen and bedroom were added on the back side. The cement building in the rear was added in the late 1950's. Hand pump in the kitchen, wood fired cook stove. The little shack out back had two boxes of corn cobs. A large one with red cobs, and a smaller one with white ones. Hence the saying 'Rougher than a cob.' Electricity finally made it there in 1962. Phone service followed in 1965. In warmer weather we bathed in the creek on a Saturday night so we all smelled good on Sunday. Heat was from a Warm Morning coal burning stove. Between that farm, and my mothers parents farm, I worked. I was brought up to Ohio to attend school every fall. Once I got old enough to drive, I got interested in women, and stayed in Ohio. Young and foolish.

Whenever I go 'home'. I take off my shoes and I feel my roots.

@fatbaldguy - Your early life sounds really idyllic. I bet you have lots of stories and personal blisters to show for of how piece by piece the family home was developed and put together. "Those were the days"!!
