Our son called today and said only 2 guys showed up at is job today so the boss told them to salt things down good so no one would bust their butts and then go home. He said when he left for work the roads were covered in ice and on the way home they had turned to white with snow. I was glad to here that he made it okay. That is nasty stuff to drive in.
Yeah, it's really bad here! We're under an Ice Storm warning till some time tomorrow. All the schools are closed again tomorrow, some through Wednesday. The Mayor has issued an Emergency Statement asking everyone to stay home tomorrow due to further accumulations of snow, sleet and frozen rain which will freeze tonight even more tonight and lead to terrible driving conditions in the morning. A good friend and her teenage daughter were walking outside to chip some of the ice off their vehicles, and were literally inches away from being crushed by a huge tree limb that fell down in her yard due to the weight of the ice on it. I won't be able to go in to work tomorrow even if the Mayor had not issued his plea. I still can't get out of my neighborhood and it will be even worse tomorrow!
"TEMA Declares State Of Emergency For Tennessee NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A State of Emergency has been declared in Tennessee as road conditions continue deteriorating across the area. An Ice Storm Warning remains in effect for most of Middle Tennessee until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Around 9 p.m., the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency activated the Tennessee Emergency Management Plan and declared a State of Emergency. State officials also said they had been assessing the weather situation and decided to close state government Tuesday in an abundance of caution. Monday night, numerous collisions were reported, including one that closed I-24 East near Briley Parkway for several hours. TEMA has also requested the National Guard to assist those involved in a crash on I-40 East in Humphreys County. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for most of southern and eastern Kentucky. Governor Steve Beshear has also declared a statewide emergency in Kentucky as some areas saw 10 inches of snow. The National Guard could be activated to help with relief as parts of the state could see 16 inches of snow." Wow. Several people have been killed as a result of this weather. Hundreds of folks were stranded on the interstate after that I40 crash, and the National Guard apparently was activated to help those stuck out in these sub-freezing temps. It's bad, folks.
.............aaaaaand now we have snow on top of the ice! Guess I'm not going in to work today, either. ---------------------------------- It's supposed to go down to -2 tonight.....and no, that's not the "feels like" temp, that's the actual one. It MIGHT struggle all the way up to 15 degrees tomorrow. Then on Friday, <sigh> we get more snow. 1 - 3 inches. MAKE IT STOP!!!
I agree completely...snow is better than the freezing rain...right now we are going through another spell of very cold weather...I am so anxious for our spring to make an appearance....
It is COLD!!!!! Past a certain point it almost doesn't matter what the temperature gauge says....it just feels FREEZING. When I feel the air on my skin the number of degrees difference between one day and the next isn't even noticeable other than feeling FREAKING COLD! It's 11 right now with a feels-like in the negatives. It's going to go up to the 20's with snow starting at 1.00ish, according to the predictions. Thank all that is holy! that the temps tomorrow are predicted to be in the high 40's. It will be raining, but with those temps and the precipitation, it will get rid of the worst of the snow and ice. Course, it's supposed to go back down to the low 30's after that at least till Wednesday but still. My street is still mostly iced over, but at least with patches of blacktop showing through where cars have worn away somewhat of a track in the ice. I'm going to be attempting to head out today. I have a client who's also a friend close by, and I'm going to head to her house both to work and to visit, at least for a little while. I told her that if the snow starts while I'm there, I'm gonna dump and run, because I need to get back up the hill before it starts accumulating and creates even more adverse driving conditions. I am so OVER this! I haven't been anywhere since last Sunday, I have to put on endless layers to even go outside, the dogs keep going to different doors to find one that DOESN'T lead to snow and ice, and worst of all? I'M OUT OF MY COFFEE CREAMER!!!! That is a TRUE disaster, right there!!
What??? This is what I woke up to this morning! You have GOT to be kidding me! Seriously, Mother Nature????
And yet AGAIN we are bombarded by winter weather. This is NASHVILLE, Mother Nature, we don't GET this kind of weather, did you not get the memo???? Ugh. Seriously? The drifts against the tires give you an idea of how much is coming down...for Nashville, it's a LOT! There's a sandbox next to that playset. Buried in snow. The snow has built up enough that you can't tell where the curb ends and the road begins. That's a first!
I saw on the news that your getting more snow today! The snow doesn't bother my son that lives there as he grew up in snow country but he is concerned about flooding if it warms up to fast and melts all the snow your getting. He did tell me that, on the way to work with the roads so icy, he slide right through a stop sign. Luckily no one was coming!
Yeah, it's pretty bad. I'm glad your son is OK! Schools are closed, many businesses, countless accidents, the Mayor is urging people to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. We have an active neighborhood website, and several people commented about them or their spouses trying and failing to get to work. A couple actually managed to get out of the neighborhood, but just couldn't manage the steep, hilly couple of miles to the interstate. There's a solid sheet of ice under that several inches of snow.
