Dooley, I, too, would be very concerned about the sparklers. When I took Adrian (who liked fire at a very early age) to a program called Fire Stoppers, the information on the sparklers was that they were very dangerous indeed. They get hot enough while they are burning to melt gold. they showed pictures of a teenage girl who was burned playing with sparklers in her grandfathers barn, because she caught it on fire,... not an image you want in your head. it was very sad! Needless to say, those packages of backyard fireworks were never allowed in our yard or house.
Our county just banned the sale and use of fireworks for the 4th! Better late than never . . . . We are so fire-conscious here that there was a concerted effort to let the county commissioners know that farmers and ranchers (the majority of the population) didn't want fireworks in any form to be available. There have been spot fires in neighboring counties but all have been contained and put out. Oh, Lord, let it rain!
I think the entire state of Texas (and the others dealing with the drought) should ban any and all fireworks this year! I haven't heard if my county has done it or not... sure would ease worrying minds some. Fingers crossed for that rain in the forecast.
