Sjoerd: I cheated. I looked up on the web how to hang a quilted wall hanging & just followed the directions. I thought it was pretty nifty, that's why I included a pic of it.

@carolyn: I cheated again. The website where I bought the fabric sold collections. I really like batiks, so that's what I searched for. The fabric was a blue-green batik collection (with a tiny bit of dark purple) each piece being 40"X6". It was even on sale! Easy.

When our daughter opens her wallhanging tomorrow ( yes tomorrow, we've had to delay Xmas celebration) I'll take a photo & post it.

BTW, there are a lot of quilts I don't like either! Sometimes i think people just make them up out of leftovers.

Nah... That's not cheating. Sounds like a logical use instead of a waste... If it was ugly who would want it?.... It looks great.

Nay Cayu, I agree with Carolyn—not cheating. That's what the internet is for. Anyhow, it looks great and is a perfect solution. Great that you included a pic of it.
Yeah, I can appreciate your work.

"BTW, there are a lot of quilts I don't like either! Sometimes i think people just make them up out of leftovers."

yeah they would look better as nesting material for birds in my opinion. I understand the idea of "its wasteful" ... well, what is more wasteful? wasting hours upon hours patching and piecing together all these scraps or letting the birds utilize them? or worms to compost them? honestly the time it takes to piece these scraps together... ummm thats a hard no from me... We are not rich by any stretch of the imagination but I would happily buy someone a few yards of fabric and swap someone the time they saved helping someone weed or mow or clean or something a little more practical... unless this is the only way they can contribute. then I will give that person a pass on the time spent doing it.

Mate, that turned out really well. Is blue a favourite colour of your daughter? After seeing those wall hangings I wonder if you couldn’t make and sell those. At any rate chapeau.

BTW did you invite Carlos Montoya for christmas dinner?

Chuckle.... You must have spied my husband's classical guitar. (Or the drawing on the wall?) Yes he plays Spanish guitar. ALL THE TIME! Especially during this pandemic, I think it's helping him maintain sanity. He hasn't been able to do his long distance bike rides... So this is the next best thing?? (Shrug) I don't know.

why? what is tarnation is wrong with riding a bike during the "pandemic"? for pitysake! tell him its OKAY! we are all living in fear because we are told to be? take your vitamin D3 and zinc. just do it and you are good! riding a bike isn't going to make you sick nor are you going to catch the illness just because you are outside exercising. this is ridiculous to live in such a state of worry. use common sense and don't lick other peoples handlebars.

Well the problem is that he doesn't camp out or cook his own food. Carryng all that gear for 900 miles would be tough at his age ( He'll be 70 next month). He stays in hotels and eats in restaurants. He'll just wait until we can be vaccinated. It'll come soon enough. In the meantime we are hiking & (he is ) guitar playing.
Oh carolyn you don't know my husband! "Living in fear" doesn't quite square with a 70 year old who bikes 900 miles by himself!

you are right. I don't know him...but seriously... tell him to bike by the day and return home at night time for now. I would LOVE to have the time and do some biking but that isn't my life. and I am glad he isn't "living in fear". none of us should be.

Yes, I saw the drawing on the wall and the guitar, and that was my reference. I wonder who the musicus is featured on that drawing. Do you know? The two guitarists that I know of are Montoya and Segovia. I know these because my father was a serious appreciator of classical Spanish guitar music. I like it very much as well, I supposed he passed that on to me. The Bride likes it as well and our burial music will be a couple of pieces that mean something to us personally.

While playing classical guitar music is complicated and difficult to master, I am not sure how much it gets his heart rate going. Chuckle. But ya nevvah know. Chapeau to him though.

Yes, it is Segovia , Sjoerd, my husband plays several of his pieces and really appreciates his music. I did not know you two were into Spanish guitar music! Not everyone is.

Carolyn, I am guilty of hyperbole! My husband isn't actually playing guitar nonstop. I tend to speak colorfully. We are actually doing just fine during the pandemic. I tend not to put that out there because there are folks who aren't doing so well. My husband is a long distance cyclist. He is gradually traversing the US in 900-1200 mile segments. But only during the summer time! Winter is way too cold. He's done half the country now.

Back in the days way before buying fabric any time, any color and any amount you wanted was possible, some of our Mom's, Grandmothers and great-grandmothers had very few choices when it came to what to make quilts out of..... Old blouses, a husband's worn out work shirts, aprons, bed covers of all types were saved to make into quilts. Those quilts were made out of necessity and yes while not being color coordinated like most quilts today and some of the leftover pieces were small, they were made with a waste not want not attitude but also because sometimes it was make a Scrap quilt out of all the left over fabric you had on hand or (to quote Big Bird) freeze your giblets off.
I have seen many quilts made from color combinations not pleasant to my eye, made from small scraps too small for me to use easily but when you think about why those pieces of fabric had to be used it makes perfect sense and in me it creates a sense of wonder and admiration for those women and the works of art they created for their family.
