@Melody Mc., take care of yourself! The things that need to be done won't leave, and if they show any intention of doing so, be quick and open the door.
Golf this morning and then shopping and now watching tennis on TV this afternoon Noticed this old fella with a sour look on his face in the stands, "trying to look inconspicuous?" Doubt if goin' on a summer holiday would cheer him up at his age.
Famously sang this hit UK song which he recorded in 1963, from the Centre Court stand, in 1996 when play was stopped for hours due to rain. The British spectators sang along with him. The American players in their stand including Lindsay Davenport could only manage, "la, la, las," as they didn't know the song. Spectators clapping on the wrong beat. But I was impressed with his performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?... Time is unkind to all of us. Here at the Centre Court this year. I wasn't impressed at all. The voice has gone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?... I sometimes use this as an example when once great singers don't know when to give up. I've a couple of her records from the sixties in one of my jukeboxes. But this awful. Old band, new singer.

@Doghouse Riley, I came of age with the Linda Ronstadt version of Heatwave. That was released my first year in the Army. Ronstadt had a powerful voice and presence, no question about it. She could sing! Listening to her brings out some real emotions. It was an intense time. But - Martha and The Vandellas, a decade earlier - even more so. But she was just too early in my life for me to know at the time. Looking at "Old Band, New Singer" - she can carry a tune, but doesnt have the joy, the presence, the power of young Martha Reeves (who is 80 years old now!). (My opinion and five dollars might buy you a latte at Starbucks LOL) If someone had that voice and energy now, maybe people would be dancing in the streets!
Today is helping a neighbour pack for moving at the end of the month. When I get home I plan to organize some canning to send home with my daughter. We will meet them on Sunday in a little community along their way from his parent's home. It is a back logging road for us - about an hour and a half drive. They will be about three hours on pavement into their 13 hour return drive home. A quick exchange of goodies and hugs before they continue on their way.
It has been a very busy few days helping neighbours move. Long days. Not many neighbours out this way,so people drive km's to help when they can. Tomorrow is firewood, helping some more, making a peach pie for neighbour and roast pork supper that should tide them over for a few days. Bagged baby frozen carrots from thinning, cabbage and broccoli. Hubby is having a rough go with some pain, so a more down day with naps and TLC.
Standing in an unnecessarily long queue at the checkouts in Tesco this morning (only three checkouts open!) I was next to what was left of their gardening gear display, which had been reduced to clear. I noticed an own label 8-way hose nozzle for £4, so I put one in my trolley. Then I noticed some Spear & Jackson gardening gloves at £2, or £1 with my Tesco Club Card. So I said "hang the expence" and bought two pairs. They'll come in handy.
Collected a couple of watches from Timpsons. This one I've had for several years, it's a Rotary Dolphin standard, I bought new on eBay. The vendor must have got the price wrong as I paid less than £50 for it. It's a £200 watch. It just needed a new battery and strap. This one, another Rotary Dolphin standard, needed more work, like a complete new movement and strap. I must have had it nearly forty years. It was new and I liked its retro styling the time, as it was very "1930's" I still like it so it was worth paying the £85 to have it repaired including battery and strap. The gold plating shows no sign of wearing off.
