I use green steel edging I found years ago . No spikes needed. It’s been great and with stands any damage from my riding mower and doesn’t show at all. It’s easy down and never mess with it again. It does allow some grass roots to seep under the edging. Even the moles haven’t messed up the edging. They go around it..haha..Not as perfect for long periods but less work in the long run with some maintenance/weeding occasionally.
