Overcast again.. or is still?

Category: Sowing Seeds | Posted: Tue Mar 29, 2011 12:13 pm

We're having a week of cold overcast and rain. While I do love a good soaking rain and the quick evening summer thunderstorm, this has weather is enough to drive me batty!

70's one week freezing the next. I've just left the covers for the plants in a box on the porch...why go inside for them when I need them so often?! I'm sure I saw my 4 legged kids mumbling about me playing peek-a-boo with the tomatoes and peppers, the covers are on and off that quickly. On the upside, I don't have to water the plants and when summer gets here the extra spring rain will have helped the ford's water level.

All told, I jumped the gun this year planting outside. I should have waited another 3 weeks..... which means I can use the rest of the year to get some sort of greenhouse set up OR build some shelves in my youngest's old bedroom on the ESE facing window. Hmmmmmm time to call my love and get some input. (wink)

Our weather dropped from 85-90 last week to barely making it into the upper 50's this week and it has been wonder for me.
I will gladly take some of that rain off your hands...we have been high and dry since January 9th.

I would go with the greenhouse, then you can stop playing peek-a-boo with the plants and making the 4 legged kids jealous....or concerned that the alone time is really getting to you. :)

I found a 5ftX5ft 77inches high portable greenhouse (like a tent) at home depot. I can take it down in the warm season or move it to another area. YES!
Toni Toni... my babies would NEVER question my sanity.. well only if I were to stop having conversations with them to talk only with the plants!

Sounds like a perfect greenhouse. I have a bloom house that has turned into more storage for gardening necessaries than for growing or holding plants. And it isn't portable, but then I have no place else to put it anyway.

Don't forget to post photos when you get it up, with or without plants.

We always jump the gun visiting nurseries and such early, but the 70 degree weather we had earlier this month fooled us into really buying what we should have waited for.

I was just wondering yesterday why I have my garden all planted when the daffidols are still blooming. I think it's because the stuff was all out in the stores and who can resist. It's gone from 60's to 50's at night here so they should be okay. Only they won't bloom and set fruit while it's so cool. I hope you don't have freezing or frost and forget your covers. dooley

Dooley my babies are already in the habit of charging out the door as soon as I get home and change clothes. They make the trip around the plants and raised bed sniffing and looking at me while I talk to the plants or mumble about the covers. Aussie will occasionally do her Chewbacca impression by voicing an inquiring tone to the plants, but then she snorts and walks on.

The weather in Michigan has been just as frustrating, no coat needed in the afternoon, gloves and scarf needed by the evening. Hope it gets nice soon.

Hey ptremonti! I see you're new... welcome to the Stew. What bought you to join? You like gardening flowers? veggies? or both? Are you new to gardening or experienced? (I ask these questions selfishly, if you're new I can learn as you learn, if you're experienced I can pick your brain). Grab a cup of tea and browse the forums.. I do once a day. Nice to meet you!
