PetlessI have been without a pet for over a year. I hate it. I'm looking for a small adult dog from an animal shelter. Living in "Small Town", Alaska is making it hard to find my new pupper. There just isn't a big influx of dogs at the Homer Animal Shelter. Most of the dogs there are large. That is the kind of dog I used to own-very large. So I go into the shelter to look only to see large dogs wanting me to take them home. Jumping in their cages, barking, whining and looking at me with those soulful doggie eyes. It's hard for me to leave... :-( The last couple of years I've had a balance problem and walk with a cane. I need a dog that, even if she does jump on me, she won't be big enough to knock me down. It's amazing how pets can have such a positive influence on us. I'm really missing that loyal companionship. I wish I could afford to fly one from "Down South" (lower 48 states) but I can't... So, I'll keep looking at homeless dogs on the internet and visiting the pound to get my doggie fix. This blog entry has been viewed 540 times

Thats a shame so many from this area and Montana work there in Alaska looks like one could find you a small dog while here and take it to you.I really enjoy my little Oreo.I would be lost without him.
I'm sure the doggie you decide upon CoolAlaskan will love his/her new home and will be lucky to have you as an owner.
I feel for you! We were without pets for two years, and I hated every minute of it. Good luck with your puppy-hunting.
hi good luck with puppy hunting i was with an animal for 10 yrs after I moved my flatand got socks 10mnth ago great company
Glendan, are you talking about "roughnecks" who work up on the North Slope drilling for oil? (Prudhoe Bay) They usually work a schedule of 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. They sure make enough money to fly "outside" every week off. {Outside is a term Alaskans use to describe everyplace OUTSIDE of Alaska!} Yes, it would be nice to have a little dog brought to me. Even for me to go to Anchorage where there are alot more than here, would take much time and money! I live 225 miles away, a 5 1/2 hour drive, and at least one maybe 2 overnights. That can get expensive. Well I pray every night for God to help me out here. I know he's listening. In the meantime, I'll keep watching Animal Planet Channel and visiting the pound. :- {
Frank, Thanks for yor kind words. I dream about that day...
Droopy, You sure know how I feel! Just seems like a big something is missing! And there IS!!
skud, My sister, who is a cat person, has been trying to talk me into getting a cat. I've always been a dog person and owned dogs for 20 years.
