Random Thoughts of coolalaskanWhat's Happenin'
Petless
Category: Random thoughts from coolalaskan | Posted: Wed Sep 26, 2007 2:38 pm I have been without a pet for over a year. I hate it. I'm looking for a small adult dog from an animal shelter. Living in "Small Town", Alaska is making it hard to find my new pupper. There just isn't a big influx of dogs at the Homer Animal Shelter. Most of the dogs there are large. That is the kind of dog I used to own-very large. So I go into the shelter to look only to see large dogs wanting me to take them home. Jumping in their cages, barking, whining and looking at me with those soulful doggie eyes. It's hard for me to leave... :-( The last couple of years I've had a balance problem and walk with a cane. I need a dog that, even if she does jump on me, she won't be big enough to knock me down. It's amazing how pets can have such a positive influence on us. I'm really missing that loyal companionship. I wish I could afford to fly one from "Down South" (lower 48 states) but I can't... So, I'll keep looking at homeless dogs on the internet and visiting the pound to get my doggie fix. Random Thoughts from cool alaskan
Category: Random thoughts from coolalaskan | Posted: Thu Sep 20, 2007 12:13 pm I had such a pitiful garden last year (06); but I was raring to go in February to have a better one in '07!! I found a website that was offering free tomato seeds; so I thought I'd send in for some. Any time after the winter solstice (Dec. 21/22) you can plant your seeds in mini greenhouses you make from recycled materials. Then put them outside in the snowbank until Spring! Living in a small "cramped trailer, I liked the idea of not having trays of sprouts all over the place. I participated in the NHGC Seed Swap last winter and this spring. I got tons of seeds-mostly flowers. So I had plenty of seeds to sow, Here's the line up. All my mini greenhouses waiting for spring Broccoli and Morning Glory bush finally came up! Ready to pot up, Poppy seedlings. "Orange" poppies (that turned out to be red & black) Winter Sown Hollyhocks on July 1st. Real small,,, First blooms from a WS seedling. Viola Tricolor AKA Johnny Jump Ups New garden for WS flowers. I had a kiddie pool in that spot and it killed all the grass underneath it. Perfect place for a new garden! New flower bed has really grown... Other plants I planted her is sunflower & larkspur. Moluccella laevis aka Bells of Ireland is also planted in the round garden. Poppy blooms don't last very long. Wow! This turned out a lot longer than I expected. Hope nobody nodded off...hee hee cool alaskan shutting down Last edited: Sun Oct 07, 2007 11:29 am This blog entry has been viewed 645 times
